is this wear around the edge of the car buffer normal?

using the same upper on a A2 stocked lower no marks......

the back of the BC does rest on the buffer face when closed on both lowers

Thanks in advance,
Dill

No, it's not normal.

The hole for the buffer detent pin is out of spec. in the lower allowing the buffer to make contact with the retaining pin when firing the rifle.

On an in-spec lower the buffer retaining pin will never be contacted by the end of the buffer under normal firing and cycling of the action.

Sooner or later you're going to end up breaking the retaining pin.

It could be a burr on the rear of the bolt carrier...

Ditto,
With the amount of markings on the face of the buffer, the buffer retaining pin would be bent already.
Chances are the back of the carrier at the bottom channel cut (relief channel section for the buffer retaining pin) has a bur that is sticking out and doing the damage.

The back of the carrier at the bottom channel cut is sharp and has a very small shiny spot that looks as it maybe the cause, not exactly a bur but an edge, I'll break the edge with a stone before I shoot it again and hopefully that will fix the issue.  I wonder why it left no mark on the A2 buffer though?

Thanks for all the help.

Dill

Ditto.

The rear of the carrier doesn't reach to the outer edge of the buffer.
