I built myself a wicked A4gery set up including a TA31, FF RAS, etc etc and it was great. I ended up selling it as I was building a new home for me and Mrs. Hokie. I used the spare change to buy a standard A2 upper. Took it to the range today and you know what...I'm extremely happy with it. Tight groups at 100 yards, great groups at 200, and mounting a 1.75X6 Leupold VariXIII on an ARMS#2 gave me some outstanding precision.

The A4gery was a pimped out rig, no doubt, but there's a simple beauty about a standard A2 Gov't. I'm very happy with it...and more importantly, the extra cash bought me a preban gas fireplace with a remote control! If only I could get my hands on a bearskin rug!

Point being, what my M4gery can't do, my A2 can.

There is just something about the classic look of a 20" barrel with fixed carry handle. I really like mine, too.

I still say you should have made her get a job

Well I shot my issued M16A4 and I like it. I also have a AR15 20"A2 as well. I would take either with me to combat as both are very capable rifles.

BTW our A4s are not pimped out.

I picked up a Armilite M15A4 Carbine as a trade the other day for my Colt 6700. I will say they are very differnt both in manufacture and in design. I am happy with the deal but ultimitly would have liked to have both, if you know what I mean.

Just last week I picked up a nice Sporter Target and have been thinking about what to do with it.

EVERYONE builds M4geries, I want something a bit different. The A4 appeals to me, but I don't really want or need to hang a bunch of junk on it. I'll let ya know what I decide.

I think AR15's are meant to be simple in design and function. When I first came to ARFCOM I had one post ban Colt Match Target A3. I ended up with with 9 AR's of different configurations, lengths, etc etc some preban some post. I've had every accessory on the civilian market minus night vision of course. Since then I've sold every one but two configurations I can't be without. Good point on the pics!

After a lot of trial and error, tons of money, and four years of learning and sharing information on ARFCOM, here is what I have to show for it:

I've narrowed what I consider necessary AR variants down to 3. First and foremost the standard 20" AR15-A2, then the 14.5" M4 type, and last but certainly not least a 16" AR15-A2 n 7.62x39.

I think with these two below you can cover most of "general purpose AR15" use:

1.14.5" with Aimpoint
2.20" with ACOG

While I like the looks of standard A2, I like ACOG too. Everything else is same to A2.

I'm a big fan of the "simple pleasures" when it comes to ARs.
