I've been wanting a AR-10 style rifle for a long time now...
Prices on  parts is reasonable  for .308 builds...
So thought I'd give one a try...

The only issue I have is I need a ArmaLite AR-10 carbine gas tube...
The Tactical Ambush barrel must use the ArmaLite pattern gas port location...
The standard middy gas tube is a little short..
A ArmaLite tube is .310 longer...

Front sight is backwards

Might be worth checking headspace, unless you're using an Armalite pattern bolt/carrier in that DPMS upper.

The tactical ambush barrel is not mid-length, it is an intermediate length gas system.

The intermediate gas tube is too long...
Tactical Ambush's web page says mid length Primary Arms web page says intermediate...
It's niether of those...
The Armalite tube is what I need it's 12 1/16 in oal...
I read some where a couple others had the same issue with other 16 inch middy .308 barrels from another maker...

Here you go Lucy:

The Tactical Ambush 16" Crusader barrel features their proprietary contoured fluting that saves weight, increases rigidity, and improves heat dispersion! The high-strength 4150 chrome moly vanadium barrel is black nitrided for extreme corrosion resistance without the negative side effects of hard chrome! I just got off the phone with Rainier Arms and they verified that the ArmaLite AR-10 Carbine gas tube is 12 1/16th  inches...
And they are in the mail...
A standard AR-15 middy gas tube is 11 3/4
I know what Primary Arms says and Tactical Ambush says in there specs neither are right...
I'll snap a picture of how the tube in my upper is now and you'll see it's to short to mate with the carrier key...
Like she said!!!
Short Tube!!!

As promised a picture of the short tube...

It's finished!!!
Turned out very well...
It now has a APF 15 inch FF hand guard 16 inch barrel with a rifle length gas system...
Primary Arms is sending the correct gas tubes for the Tactical Ambush barrel I have the ArmaLite tubes are to short for it also...
The guys a Alex Pro Firearms treated me too good service like I've not seen in years...
Had to give them a plug!!!!
Here's a picture and a video...

Looks like you have 3:30-4:00 ejection, which is right where you want to be.  What ammunition are you shooting there?

I was shooting the Turkish crap from WalMart...
It was $10 a box so I picked up a few boxes to try...

I'll update this for those who might be sitting on a Tactical Ambush barrel thinking oh this will make a nice club because all the gas tubes made don't fit...
I emailed Primary Arms and told them of the problem I had...
They responded and said TA was having custom gas tubes made and they send me a couple when they received them...
The gas tubes showed up this week and it looks like they will work...
Another 3/16 in OAL would be better...
But it should work...
So looks like I'm building another AR-10 this one will be a carbine style...

Turkish? like De-Lights? Isn't ZQI from Isreal and Tula from Russia? What else does Wmart sell?

BTW, Nice Job on your build. Nothing better than the first shot going BANG :)

The ZQI is Turkish made ammo...
For $9.98 a box it's a delight for my wallet!!!
The Independence ammo WalMart sells is Israeli...
I won't shoot steel case ammo from my AR's only my AK's...
Kinda weird that way...
The first shot did go bang but with the too short gas tube it didn't cycle so well...
The sixth round was the money shot...

I used a Quentin Defense 80% lower...
I try to do all my own machine work when possible...
I have another that I'll be doing real soon for the carbine build that's in the works...
