I'm building my own S&W Ar-15. I've already bought the stripped lower receiver for $100.

wouid anybody out there know how much more I have to spend. this is what i will be adding onto it. (5.56)

16' barrel- 1:7 twist price? how much is a 1:7 Barrel compared to a 1:9 twist?

A2 Carry stock (I will not carry the weapon by using this feature)

6 postiton car stock

Basic hand guards (no flashlight add ons exc...)

basic bolt carrier group. (gas operated)

nothing fancy, its really basic & i'm sure it will get the job done. I'm just looking how much $ down the road I am looking to spend

thanks in advance.

What's a carry stock?

Are you looking for just a barrel or a complete upper receiver?

Since your missing a few parts on your list.

It could probably finished for 500 or 600 bucks

You need to put at least $600 in it. That will get you a J&T kit, $550 shipped, with M4 handguards and a 6 position M4 stock (not sure of the barrel twist), and you will need a few USGI mags, and a sling.
Del-Ton would be good way to go as well. Most of these kits are going to be 1 in 9 twist (which should be fine).
Now you could spend a lot more, but that is up to you.

Thanks all.

I will be needing a complete upper receiver, and everything else. I did figure about 500 or 600 bucks.

what would the price difference be between a 1:9 twist and a 1:7 twist?

I ought to be getting the stripped lower receiever at the store sometime this week. I will post pics as all my parts come along.

Sounds like you need to get a kit to finish up that stripped lower.

And don't get an A2 upper receiver, get an A4 and a detachable carry handle.

Twist rate has absolutely nothing to do with barrel prices.  You can find both twists for as little as $117 or as much as $360.

It might be cheaper to go with a 16" barrel over a 16' barrel

It would certainly be lighter, and easier to fit in the safe... Better handling to boot.

$800? I'd say that's a good budget build.

I built one a couple months ago for less than $650 very similar to that.

Just a couple of weeks ago my buddy and I finised up his build. He got a Double Star kit at a gunshow with BCG and CH for $450+tax and bought a DPMS stripped lower at a shop for $129 out the door. The only thing he don't have is a carry handle. It's a real nice $600 shooter.

He's gonna get one like mine. Got it off Amazon for >$30. UTG brand, works well so far. Right now he's playing around with a red dot and a scope.
