I have a carbon fiber FF handguard coming for a super-lightweight build. I'd like to have my machinist mill vents into it, along the lines of the YHM FF tubes, to further reduce the weight. Wondering if I will destroy the structural integrity and strength of the tube by doing this? Anyone know if the DPMS/Clark/etc tubes can be vented or milled without reducing their strength?

I'm no CF expert, but I'm guessing you would be hurting the strength by putting long cuts into it. If I were doing it, I'd do holes rather than slots.

Even then, I don't see the weight being reduced that much.
