As with many of y'all, the A2 stock gives an LOP that's uncomfortably long, with the A1 just a bit better. And the Entry stocks are too short. What works well for me is an Entry length stock (Ace in this case) with a DPMS Buttstock Extender (bottom):

I'd love to get that length with either the Ace Ultra Light or the Yankee Hill Ultra Light (bottom two):

but that's not going to work with the Buttstock Extender.

So, any ideas?

You live in Texas, why not just use an adjustable stock like a MOE/CTR?

Why limit yourself with a fixed stock?

I have plenty of adjustable stocks. I want an Ultra Light fixed stock for a particular gun, in the length described.

The Sully stocks are about that length but heavy as hell.

Take a rifle buffer tube, cut it to the length that you want and cut it off.

Take a small section of 1" diameter aluminum stock, slide into the buffer tube to make the inside length the correct length for a carbine buffer tube, and weld it into place.

Repeat with a small section to reinforce the rear of the buffer tube against the clamping action of those ultralight buttplates, or else use one solid piece of aluminum instead of separate pieces.

Or, could just take two entry tubes, cut the rear part off of one and weld it to the back of another entry tube, to get the same effective end result.

Never contemplated this before but now that I've thought about it I might have to make one that way and try it.

Well it can work with the DPMS Buttstock Extender.

Here's what you get with the Buttstock Extender:

And here's the ACE Ultra Light hardware:

Notice that the ACE buttplate is not drilled for a bolt to attach it to the receiver extension:

The hole that is there is for mounting the buttpad only. A clamp is used to attach to the receiver extension; in practice it has worked well.

To mount the DPMS extension spacer to the receiver extension required a little grinding:

Cut a beveled recess (there's plenty of "meat", so I'm not too worried about weakening the part):

So the bolt can tighten down flush with the end of the extension:

The shorter bolt supplied winds up just about even with the end of the buffer tube interior, so there's no interference with the action.

But I remained a little concerned with the possibility of the spacer rotating. So, with a 1/16" ball bearing graciously supplied by arfcom member GENE SMITH I made a detent by drilling complementary half holes in the receiver extension:

And in the spacer (shown with ball bearing):

It took a little sneaking up on it to get the holes just right, but it all snugs up tight and will not rotate. Assembled with a good dose of Loctite, it passed its initial test at the range this morning. It appears to be the light and sturdy fixed stock that I wanted, fit to me.

Here it's compared to an A1 stock:

And with its partner:
