I am replacing the bolt carrier group in my mid-length and was trying to decide whether to replace the standard AR15 BCG which seems to work fine with an H-buffer: M193 ejects to 3 o'clock, with an M16 carrier. Someone very astutely pointed out that the AR15 rifle was originally designed with an M16 buffer.

I'm sure the rifle would run quite well with an AR15 buffer, but what are the advantages/disadvantages of running an M16 bolt carrier. It's a little heavier (I asssume) so it would smooth things out a little, but will it lock back every time it's supposed to?

I run a middy with an M16 carrier and a super heavy 9mm buffer out of an M4 stock. You'll be fine.

I run that setup in mine, shoots nice.

I run an enhanced AR carrier and 9mm buffer in mine and really like it. I've got about 1000rds through it right now with NO hiccups.
