I have few thousand rounds of supposedly "Maylasian" 5.56 w/ a NATO circle/cross headstamp in white boxes I bought 7-8 years ago.

Anyone know anything about this ammo??

Thanks in advance.

It's decent, although pretty old by now. It's "real" M193, but I found the federal XM193 to shoot better in my gun. At 200 yards I have been getting 3.5 MOA.

Seemed to be dirtier than Fed XM193, but very reliable. I have not been saving any of the brass to reload, becuase the anneling seems to go further down than LC, and seems softer in the web area. Also, the case head stamping would iron out after being shot. no other pressure signs.

Thank you for the reply. I have it all sealed up in strippers and ammo cans w/ dissicant, part of my "stashed" ammo.

Looked like good stuff when I bought it, but I thought I would see if anyone had any experience w/ it.

Thanks again,

Don't shoot it for plinking ammo like I did.

Very high quality, hot loaded--I got 3100 FPS out of a 16" carbine-- NATO spec ammo.

My lot was from 1983, but still chrono'd consistently and was fairly accurate--about 2.5 MOA.

Not available anymore as surplus.

I picked up around 350 rounds of Malaysian M193 a couple of weeks ago, and I finally got around to chronographing the load through my 16" Rock River M4gery. I also shot the M193 through a 22" rifle. Here are the results:

Barrel Length: 16.5"
Temperature: 48*
Chrono 12 feet from muzzle

Malaysian M193, '84 Head stamp (16.5" bbl)
3074 3086 3065 3058
avg: 3071
SD: 12.09
med: 3069.5

Malaysian M193, '84 Head stamp (22" bbl)
3276 3292 3252
avg: 3273
SD: 20
med: 3276

Accuracy was around 1.75-2" @ 100 yards

Good stuff ... strong ammonia smell, but great ammo for potential emergencies. I wish I'd bought a lot more of it when I had the chance (like So. African M1A3).

Ya.....wear a gas mask when using it. I had a couple of cases of it and brought some to a shoot last year. You should have seen the guys (a few police cadets) after shooting a couple of mags in an AC556.....they looked like they got maced. Tears rolling down their faces and eyes burning.

Aside from that, its great stuff.....wish I bought a ton of it when I had the chance.

The ammo cans are pretty nice too. I haven't shot any so I can't help you there.

I thought it was very good ammo.
