What is it with the veitnam-era mattel m16 stocks? Was this a special issue item only available to elite commandos who participated in the cambodian insurgency?

You had to be wearing the appropriate decoder goggles to see the logo. They were actually all Mattel...[rolleyes]

Yes.  It was a terribly prepared operation.  The whole team was cut down when they drove through the Vietnam jungles in there pink Barbie Jeeps.

It wasn't just the stocks.  There was a limited run of Mattel rifles.  The picture isn't mine, but it has been posted here before...

Mattel never made so much as one PART for an M16.

Edited because scottfn308 realized his error..[8D]

Edited again because apparently he didn't - Scott: Shadowblade was just having fun!

The photo is a fake.

Mattel NEVER made the M-16.

Only Colt, H&R, GM Hydramatic, FN and a few others ever have for the Military.

Read "The Black Rifle"

Well, this makes me wonder if all the people who Ive met who swear the thing was made by mattel, were really part of the secret SOG/MACV cambodian insurgency. [coffee]

My mistake,
There was another thread where someone was swearing that
Mattel made pistol grips and I thought this
was spawned from that.

My apologies to Shadowblade.

I hate to be the one to bust your bubbles guys, but Mattel did make M-16's back in the '60's. I know because I had one. Select fire, black synthetic stock, three prong flash hider. It was the neatest. I also owned an Eagle M-14 that I got for Christmas. It came with a matching .45 ACP. These were the neatest guns I had ever owned and wore them all slap out.

[size=5][green]FOR YOU DISBELIEVERS AND NAYSAYERS, HERE ARE THE PICTURES TO PROVE MY ASSERTIONS!!![/green][/size=5]

Dang, I had one too in the mid-70's.  As I remember it was a nice, light rifle that I used to play "Army" with and I never had any problems with it. Very reliable "gun".  LOL.    Now I have a "real" one, go figure.  Guess that toy left a lasting impression on me.   Talk to ya'll later.  TN.Frank

Oh man you guys had the coolest toys back in the 60s! I grew up in the 80s, we had some neat ones but nothing like that M14 that is cool, kicks out shell casings too!

The coolest thing we had was a CAR-15 lookin one that had a bright orange cap over the barrel (first thing to go). IIRC, it had a long trigger pull that would make some cheesy noise. Maybe like the generation 2 matty mattel rifle.

If anyone wants their very own (Mattel M16) go here:

I too had one, this led to getting an SP-1 in 1970.  The Mattel was lighter!
