My son is looking to pick up a 22 cal AR-15. He dosen't want to but a conversion kit for his Rock River AR. He is concidering the M&P 15-22. From what i have read today about the M&P it's cons are polymer upper & lower, and stiff 7lb trigger pull. Is the M&P 15-22 GTG? Or should he look at some other 22 cal AR?

They (15-22's) are awesome rifles. Most reviews you read are going to be about how good they are.

I am trying to lay my hands on a camo one with the threaded barrel and 25 round mag. For a good price.

Good luck on your quest.

Same here . the trigger can  be swapped, however mine is just as good (almost) as my standard AR trigger.

I love my 15-22 and its just fun to shoot.  The first batch had issues but those issues have been addressed by S&W.  If you do have problems S&W will take care of you.

My biggest complaint about mine is that I didn't buy it a year sooner. Easily one of the most-fun shooters in my safe, and reasonably accurate.

I have one and I installed the yellow trigger springs after about 1000 rds. I have about 2500 rds through it now, and the trigger is great. It gets better the more you shoot it. The reliability on these is great. By with confidence.

At the risk of sounding like an echo chamber......Buy it with confidence, they are reliable, accurate and you can do a trigger job to improve the pull weight. got my trigger down to a crisp 5lbs just by trimming the spring and polishing the sear / hammer surfaces.

Once you get it set up look for some local Tactical .22 matches to practice at. I'm lucky to have a range not far from my house that does these matches every 2 weeks, here's a video of 1 stage:

I don't think you can get a better .22 in the AR platform. Mine's been outstanding.

A bi pod on the rifle would save a lot of wear on the mags when fired from the prone position.......

Several of my co-workers have them and like them; no regrets.
The S&W is lighter than the CMMG .22 which is real nice.

I have no regrets about the CMMG .22 upper either.
The CMMG uses and can accept all AR add-ons and modifications though.

Looks to be the same rifle only with a 10 rndr instead of a 30 rndr.

This thread needs more camo

Love it.  Reasonably accurate but so much fun to blast away.

Love mine.  I've shot the snot out of it, and the worst I can say is one OOB discharge.  The cheap shooting has made me infinitely better with the AR platform; mine is set up just like my Government Carbine.
Feed it Federal AutoMatch; shoots straight, feeds without drama, and reasonably priced.

Had one. Sold it.

Now I wish I hadn't, it was a fun shooter! But, had some unexpected expenses in college. Gotta do what you gotta do to stay a float. I will be getting another when I can.

My kid said he is going to replace the trigger group in the M&P 15-22 any recommendations as to witch trigger that is the easiest to install?

I am running the Geissele SSA in mine with exactly zero problems.  Great trigger, no drama with installation, no issues with misfires or function, and just, generally, the best money spent on the gun.  The XS skunk stripe front sight comes in a distant second.

I just put the Geissele SD-3G the threegun flat trigger model, Had to bend the trigger springs to get the pull down some but other than that it drops right in, also put in the BadAss 45' safety, it fits just fine, just have to grind off the lawyer pin. I shoot a regular 22LR match and the S&W MP22 is more reliable than any other rifle commonly used, converted AR, dedicated Uppers, Rugers. I got the MOE model, it was worth the few extra bucks, I used to shoot a custom Ruger/KIDD 10/22. I'm faster with the S&W.
