I'm looking to change the stock 60s era handguards on my S&W m&p15 optics ready rifle with a Magpul moe one. However, I'm not sure which size to get....carbine or mid length?

Also, anyone have any luck using the gen2 mbus buis mounted on the gas block? Would it melt?

Carbine for the handguard.

I never tried a MBUS on the block but I'm not sure I would trust it,it would probably be fine most of the time but if you had a day of bumpfire for some reason it may be a problem.
ETA I found a thread where some guy said he fired 250 in a few minutes and there was no damage to the sight so it may be gtg for 99% of use.

Carbine for the handguard and no on the MBUS on the gas block.
