who cares if it's melted a bit? it still keeps your hand off the barrel. a free float will just get as hot as the barrel in this case, then your rail covers will melt...

ETA-Oh, and nice handguards! How many rounds?

I dunno, he just stood there banging away. He must have brought 50 loaded magazines with him.

I melted my factory bushmaster handguards, after about 400 rounds fast as I could fire them. This was my little test to see what it could handle, and the rifle ran great..handguards caught on fire and melted though.

Railed aluminum handguards for me now.

Freefloat system in the near future.

What make? I see what appears to be a blackened heat shield.

I have gotten the gas tube on my 24" H-Bar to change colors just by going through 90rd-100rd really quickly (1 shot per 1-2 seconds). It changed colors right near the gas block. Perhaps the lack of a standard A2 FSB (more surface area???) helped contribute to the burning handguards? Did your handguards guard your hands? If so, they worked as advertised.

Geez, I thought it was nuts when mine started to smell funny and smoke a bit... I didn't get FLAME!

Nice pic!
