I got one of the preview PRS stocks the other day. I plan to use mine on my AR10. Thats the good news. The bad news is, my AR10 is not ready to be finished. Should be pretty soon though. Not wanting a good thing to go to waste, I let JimW borrow the stock for the time being so he can use it on his SPR. He doesnt post much here, but does on lightfighter. So, the below review and pics are not me or my rifle. But I figure I would pass on what he thinks so far. This is all from his post on lightfighter...

I got this stock from New-Arguy to play with and give my thoughts on. Initial inspection reveals a solid and well made stock. In your hand it feels robust with no discernable wobble that is found in many other adjustable AR stocks. The body is plastic while the butt plate is aluminum. The sling mounts are aluminum and can be removed or moved to the opposite side of the stock. Installation is as simple as it gets. Simply remove the butt plate screw of the full length A2 stock, remove the stock and replace with the PRS. Re-insert screw. The PRS uses the full length buffer tube (not included).

Length of pull fully closed is 10 ¼ inches. Fully open it is 11 ¼ inches. The adjustment knob clicks solidly between notches. I didn’t like that it takes 76 clicks to extend the butt plate from the fully closed to the fully open position. It takes a few minutes to accomplish this. For comparison the Magpul M93A2 is 11 ¼ inches fully extended and the Vltor stock and the Mil Spec M4 stock are 10 ¼ inches. Incidentally, the Vltor rubber butt pad adds ½ an inch (10 ¾ total) if you have this unit and wish for extra eye relief.

The cheek rest can be completely flush or extended upwards ¾ of an inch. Again the clicks are solid but it takes 60 clicks to move it through its full range. With a standard stock you don’t realize how much you hold your head up off the stock when looking through a scope on an AR. This cheek rest is one of those things you never thought you needed but once you try it you’re hooked. It sits back far enough so that even when the charging handle is fully extended it has a ¼ inch of clearance and doesn’t touch the cheek rest. Ideally it would be a ½ inch longer toward the receiver for added comfort, but this just isn’t possible.

The bottom of the stock is long and flat for sand bags/ bunny bags. I like the “hook” as this is where I like to place my off hand when not using a bag. This is something I would like to see on future Vltor designs (Tap tap. Is thing on? Are you listening Vltor?)

On my SPR I have the Magpul M93A2. I selected this stock on a precision rifle because it allows quick and solid adjustment of the length of pull. There is no wobble with this stock. The natural placement of your mellon on the stock changes depending on your position i.e. prone, standing, kneeling, bench rest etc... The adjustment allows for proper eye relief while maintaining a natural head position. You shouldn’t need to feel that your neck is stretching or awkwardly pulled back to get proper eye relief. The M93A2 adjusts quickly to what ever position is called for. The PRS does not adjust quickly. If you are shooting exclusively in one position this is not an issue so some folks may not mind this.

All in all this is a nicely executed idea and let’s face it, it just looks damn sexy. I like it and may purchase a production model. If I could make one improvement it would be to change out the extension screw to one that has fewer threads per inch. This would speed up the adjustments. Other than that nicely done, Magpul.

Neil, what do you think abou the fact the stock requires the user to abandon the NTCH hold so many are used to? It seems like the scope is required to be in a more rearward position than with other stocks because of the risers need to clear the charging handle. While I realise that is unavoidable do you think Magpul will tighten up the tolerances and eliminate that extra .25" gap between the charging handle and the riser or is that needed for the AR10 vs AR15 etc? I cant see the pics.
