Does the military specify how magazines are to be carried? If so, which way is specified?

Anyone have an opinion of what works for them??

Any difference between carry in L.B.V.s and mag. pouches??

Down. Protects the open end of the mag from debris, and its the way you want to grab the magazine for a reload.

Another vote for down.

I have heard many reasons given for carrying your magazines "rounds down" in your LBV. -protects the magazine lips -catches any stray rounds that fall out -inhibits dirt and/or debris from clogging mag -easy recognition of full magazine in the dark -put empty mags lips up to help with the above -mag will pull out the same way in goes in the rifle I'm sure there are probably 100 more reasons, but this is what I have compiled so far. -REAPER2502

550 cord panic straps are there when you need them.

Rounds down, because that's what Sgt. Jones, the Jr. DI of our recruit platoon instructed me (in no uncertain terms) to do at Parris Island in 1972. That, and what the others have said. I will add that empties and partials go "Open End Up" in the LBE to prevent confusion. Noah
