I shot 25 rounds of Cabelas MK262 a few days ago (Lot BLH04G051-001).

Out of the 25 these 5 had a "rip" in the neck.  Upon close inspection I could see the anomalie in some of the unfired brass.

You can see the "cosmetic imperfection" on the left.  Looks more like a "structurally significant imperfection"... how much of a problem is this?

Yuck, looks like the brass is cracked and is burning thru, guess I'll pass on this stuff if that is what is happining.

It looks like there is a small sliver of soft brass that is being blown right out.

Now that soft brass is splattered inside of my chamber and bore...

So - isnt the Cabelas stuff the White Box seconds?

If so - now you know why it is "seconds".

Yeah, I know....  Now I have some inspection work to do.

It could take a while... I bought 1000 rnds.

Folds in case necks caused during manufacturing. I guarantee 100% they were there before firing, after firing the folds opened up and split. I've seen this in some rejected ammo I get from work.

Is Cabelas Mk262 known to be QC rejects?

Wow will have to look at my stuff closer. I shot 50 rounds about a week ago and didn't look at any of the fired brass. There is so much brass lying around on this range (which is in a game management hunting area) it probably wouldn't be easy to find.
I know the accuracy was good on everything I shot.

Bought 200 rounds yesterday and the only thing i noticed on the brass was slight dings here or there in the cases. Will check it again tonight.

Thanegrooms,
Thunderbolt882 is correct. this defect is the result of a crease in the cartridge case incurred at the time the cartridge brass was formed. It is one of the case imperfections that we inspect for, and thus the reason that they would be found in the cosmetic seconds available through Cabelas.

Dimensionally the ammo is within spec (we 100% gage all ammo pulled for cosmetic reasons), but the crease will often cause a crack upon firing. This does not affect safety, function or performance. Thanks, Jeff Hoffman, Black Hills Ammunition.

Thank you Jeff.  It's good to get REAL info right from the SOURCE.

I appreciate that you take the interest here on the boards and time to post replies.

I really like this ammo, so however we get it, it's better than not having it.

Works for me.

Please reject some more. Cabelas is sold out.
