I´m going to do a test on a bulletproof vest plate and compare penetration between a M855 bullet and a 9mm+p (swedish ball M39/B) the 9mm ball is loaded for subgun use and have a thicker steel jacket in front.
The plate is certified to stop a 9mm bullet of the kind i´m going to use and the question is, Would the M855 bullet (from a Rem 700P 100yds) penetrate the vest plate???
And how big is the difference in penetration between a M855 and a 9mm on a vest??

I think you will find the M855 zipping right through it. That said, I look very forward to your results!

What is the plate rated as? Level II? IIA? III? The M855 will go through it like it's made of butter, but until you tell us the armor classification, the 9mm is an unknown.

Hi Here is some info about the M39/B ball http://medlem.spray.se/coonan/9x19/9x19.html But i don´t know the NIJ rating on the plate, The text on the plate tells me that it would stop a M39/B round. The plate is probably manufactured in sweden. I think that the M39/B ammo is classified as armor piercing in the US. I can post some photos when the test is done if someone is interested. I will probably do the test on sunday....... //Magnus

Seems that some of the M39/B has made it´s way to the US. http://www.glocktalk.com/showthread.php?s=cc8f4f07958f793f6338ae603527f8f5&threadid=75520&highlight=m39b

What kind of plate is this can you give me some data on it? NIJ standards are not always used in European countries. There are several standards out there and if you can tell me what the standard is I might be able to offer a bit of insight. Odds are its not going to stop M855 though. I only know of one English made small trauma plate that will stop rifle rounds made with a composite material. Manufacturer, size, any writing one the plate would help.
