I degreased everything for the first time after about 1,400 rds of mostly M855 & XM855PD from Ammoman. While spraying up into the chamber green flakes flooded out and onto the newspaper covered table. Interesting. There's still some around the bolt lugs in the receiver that I couldn't get out. More down in the lower receiver in the trigger mechanism.

Does this happen to anyone else? Is it anything to be concerned about? Any good tips on getting rid of it, or minimizing it, aside from shooting less?

Thanks

If you have the time, clean the tips off prior to loading it up into mags.

I've shot many thousands of rounds of IMI M855, and have never seen this. I've shot maybe 1000 rds Lake City M855; never seen this. Maybe one of the reasons the ammo was relegated to "training use only"?

Perhaps.

Alot of it wasn't PD though, it was on strippers in cardboards.

I thought the public couldn't get tier 1 ammo. Personally I think all the LC 855 is PD whether it comes loose or in strippers & cardboards and or bandos.

I haven't noticed anything with M855, but M856 tracers leave orange chips everywhere.
Link Posted: 3/10/2006 4:11:12 PM EDT
So stop cleaning it.

If LC or Fderal said it was 1st tier I would believe that. I will not thake the word of anyone thats selling it sealed in unmakked cans with the lot #s on the bandos blacked out with a marker. What would you do under fire, start opening cans to try to locate the caliber ammo you need? Don't get me wrong, I have bought a lot of this ammo and have no problems or complaints at all. Perhaps there is something I am not aware of but we all are aware of the Clinton EO that forbids 1st tier ammo sale to the public. I think we each believe what we want.

AMMOMANS LCM855 RULES

I sure did! Wal-Mart had non-chlorinated Primis for $1.88/can. Worked excellent.

And yes, Ammoman's M855 does rule. I love it.

I haven't fired any M193 variants, just Winchester White Box from Wal-Mart. I may try some in the future though.

What about when the ammo cans are still sealed with the lead ordnance cartouche still intact? Still not real enough?

FMJ. Nowhere in this conversation have I said anything negative about Ammoman or his products. I have bought from him in the past , and will so in the future. I have his "front line M855" ammo in my SHTF stash so I am confortable with the quality. It just seems like if anyone askes a question regarding a product that Ammonan sells (and there are others selling it) some people on this board attack you and your motives.

I really want to slip out of this conversation but you just won't let me. One question OK. This has nothing to do with Ammomans or anyone elses M855. At what stage of the manufacturing and packaging process does the contractor stencil the contents and specs on the can?

Edited for spelling

Not sure why I am keeping this post going but I do believe the stenciling was removed from the cans. My can still has some yellow paint on it (smeared). Seems to me the OD paint on the can is a little tougher than the stencil paint and I wouldn't be suprised if you could remove the stencil without damaging the OD coat. But I could be wrong I am just speculating based on the fact that there is yellow paint on my can. What seems weirder to me is how/why lot numbers would be blacked out on sealed cans...

BTW I've never had a problem with the paint on the tips of my ammo gumming up my chamber. I do see alot of sealant on the bolt face though.

I haven't noticed had any issues with the paint or anythng else either. Either that or the brake cleaner and CLP flush it before I notice it. Either way it's good.

Black out Lot numbers on bandoliers?
The factory could of made a mistake on the Bandoliers when issueing the ammo out?

Back in 2001 I remember EVERYONE WANTING FAMOUS LAKE CITY M855

My A1 15HBAR Bushy 1/9 twist loves the SS109 Bullet as well as the LMT 14.5
