M79 is my #1 choice there.  I can only picture the scene from Apoc Now where the grenadier "takes care" of the guy running his yap a few meters out....remember that?

Best M79 movie scene ever:

GUNNER
Wake up the Roach.

The Spotter moves down to where a tall lanky SOLDIER is
leaned up against the trench. He kicks him hard several
times. Roach wakes and just looks up. On his helmet are
the words: "GOD BLESS DOW."

ROACH
Yeah, man.

SPOTTER
Slope in the wire -- hear him.

He listens, he does, he nods.

SPOTTER
    (continuing)
Bust him.

Roach gets up somewhat annoyed but very cool. He saunters
up the machine gun dragging his M-79 which has paisley
designs all over it.

GUNNER
Hear him?

ROACH
Sure , yeah.

GUNNER
You need a flare --

ROACH
No, it´s cool.

He opens the breech of his shotgun-like weapon and plunks
the big slug into it. He snaps it closed then rests it
across his forearm over the trench -- he listens to the
SCREAM, calculating.

ROACH
    (continuing)
He's close -- real close.

He adjusts his sights so that the gun is aimed high into
the air. He listens again then FIRES. The GRENADE
WHISTLES off into the night. There is a sharp EXPLOSION
that cuts off the scream. Then the THUD of bodies or
pieces of bodies coming down around them.

ROACH
    (continuing)
Muhhh Fuhhh ...

He staggers back down the trench to go to sleep.

Great retro-combo

I must say the idea of an M79 along with the throw-back F/A xm177 and the Randall is a nice authentic mix.

I have always been curious as to how that stock 'locks' into position....or does it?

ETA: F/A newb Q:  You mentioned "Sub-Machine Gun" I was under the impression that sub guns were pistol caliber only.

true/false?

Or is it a size thing?

Thanks

SMG's technically are supposed to be pistol caliber only.  However, the 607 was released by Colt with the factory moniker Colt Model 607 Commando Model Submachine Gun.  The XM177/GAU-5/A was also stamped SMG, while the E1 and E2 were both stamped Commando.  I'm not sure what the GAU-5A/A was stamped.

Oh, I left out CAR-15, which is also in there.  Its Colt Model 607 CAR-15 Commando Model Submachine Gun.  This is where people generally assume CAR-15 began to be used for shorties and carbines, because no one wanted to say that whole thing.

Wrong,

The only 2 USGI Colts to have "Commando" on them are the XM177 (610) and the XM177E1 (609).

markm,

Here is info on Total Silence, Inc..

Here is a pic of one of my XM607s.  The buttstock, handguards, moderator, and charging handle are all from Total Silence, Inc.

Buttstock extended:

Excellent product and easy guys to work with.  They have beau coups handguards but they are down to less than ten buttstocks and have no plans to manufacture any more so if you want to get one, don't wait too long!

Edited to add:
It runs like a scalded dog on FA.  We retro-fitted my C3 dealer's receiver and ran it to see how it would function.

Since nobody else has said it.....that's a nice Knife.

If I thought I could afford it, I'd ask you if it was for sale.

The guns are nice, too.

My dad was issued an M79 when he was in the army. He spoke fondly of it.

I have heard the soviets call the AK a submachine gun.
