are the m6's and m3's really bright enough for dark full room use? Or is there somthing better for the cash?

The M3 & M6 are really handgun lights. I do have a M6 on one of my M4geries, but its my "inside" gun. For an "outside" gun, you'll need to step up to a Surefire.

They work OK on a pistol such as XD-40 or Glock.  Good for outside and inside use on a pistol.

However, M6 is not that efficient on AR-15 either as  a laser or a light.  For light, you need something bigger.  For laser, I don't see a point of having a laser on an assault rifle or carbine.
Laser is good primarily for a pistol or submachine gun such as MP-5.  I always had trouble with laser on UZI.

How were you able to get legal clearance to 'assist' a deputy?
