I was wondering how much length was needed to make an M4 barrel legal.  I took a 14.5" barrel, put a crush washer and birdcage suppressor on it (hand tight), and it came in just under 16" from the face of the bolt to the edge of the supressor.  Then I tried two crush washers and it took me just over 16".

Has anyone ever tried pinning two washers and a birdcage?  Does anyone make a thick washer for this purpose?  This sounds like an intersting idea for someone that wants the M4 look, but doesn't want a Phantom.

Wow, that's even better.  BTW, the product on the website says "Manufactured by: Sabre Defence."

Does this HAVE to be perm attached to be legal.

P.S. I always ask questions to answers I know.

Yes, there is no way around it short of picking up a SBR.

Have them and want something different.  Otherwise what's the point of a bunch of identical ar15s?

I always had that nagging question hinking.gif Can you just simply take a USGI 14.5 in. M4 barrel and weld a 1.5 in. flash hider, like a Vortex, Phantom or even an extended Birdcage and that would make it 16 in. legalhe
I know this whole barrel lenght deal is like horse.gif, but I want tomake sure I do things right.

Who do I have to hair.gif ?

Why not do it right and get Gemtech to perm. mount up one of their Bi-Lock Flash Hiders then the barrel will meet ATf regs and you will be good to go if you ever want a supressor.

You know? Tac weld the hider so is permanent and that would keep the ATF off your back. That's my curiosity. I am building my own M4gery and I want the M4 profile barrel, but I can't stand the 16 incher, which looks way too long (without the hider).

I know this whole barrel lenght deal is like , but I want tomake sure I do things right.

Who do I have to ?

yep, u can do it, many vendors sell just what u describe, i have one on my M-FAUX
