Just email DD and tell them your wrench bent and messed up your barrel nut. Send your address. Theyll mail a new barrel nut and a new wrench no questions asked.

Done that twice now actually. Quick response both times by Marler.

The wrenches from Classified really are great though.

I simply don't like painted rifles when it's not necessary. Given my lack of operating operationally in operations with my personal rifles, I'd say it's quite unnecessary unless that's your thing.

That's what I figured. I'm debating on swapping out my b5 fde to match my magpul mct mags, but I don't think the b5 coyote is quite right.

Yeah, I had the SBR before the M4A1 but didn't feel like paying money for an LMT just to make it match again. I honestly kind of like the coyote stock with the rest of the 50 shades of FDE on the M4.

Besides the standard a2 pistol grips, what others are considered clone correct/at least most often purchased within units?

I have never seen or heard of a unit buying COTS other pistol grips.  Money is better spent on lights or optics that are needed.  PGs are personally expensed.

That makes sense. Thanks CD. Which ones do you see most frequently? Any personal preference to still stay within the clone vibe if not an a2? Trying to find an excuse to put one with a storage compartment on the build lol

Seems like the big ones I see are Magpul, hogue, and ergo.

I have a Magpul MIAD on mine since it was in the parts box and I like the feel.

Sort of on-topic, but curious to hear from you guys;

I see so many Elcan setups with a buis behind it, even in the mil, and I'm over here thankful that I'm right at the limit of it being functional mounted all the way to the very back. They all have a fixed eye relief - is it just my body type/shoulder? From ready to shooting position, I'd have to move my neck forward if it was positioned any farther up.

Same boat as you.  I do not understand how you can mount buis behind the elcan and it be comfortable.  I run mine without, however,  I don’t need to run it all the way back.

I'm guessing for range use it's pretty easy to make the adjustments but for quick shouldering and target acquisition, I'd have to lean my neck forward and get into a more uncomfortable position to stay in the eyebox --- but again, I've seen pics of some of our boys using them like that overseas so I am genuinely curious.

I can't get nose to charging handle with proper LOP or unnaturally moving my neck forward. I'm not overweight or wearing armor. Idk

Depending on the unit, there can be SOP's, usually at the individual team level, that dictate BUIS being on the gun, and their location. If you get issued an Elcan, have to have BUIS behind it, and the armory won't swap your Elcan for something else....kinda SOL.

I've seen EXPS 3-0's mounted, and electrical taped down, halfway out on the rail of Mk18's, within the last year. SOF =/= gun guy

It's not ideal, but as a long time NF user, I'm used to short eye relief/tight eyebox optics. I had a PRI riser on it before that allowed me to use buis and have the Elcan mounted farther back, which was better.

If my life depended on it, I'd ditch the rear sight and move it back.

Has anyone seen or heard of a person running the FSB rail with a low pro gas block? I’ve got a killer deal on a FSB rail, but my barrel is a 14.5” with a mid length gas system. Drop some pics or some knowledge! Thanks!

I probably will eventually, but I thought it would be fun to be a little different for awhile. I was just looking for ideas to cover up the hole in the rail.

Were FSB ever removed and replaced with mk12 GB for barrels to fit under a non FSB RIS II? How did they prevent the taper pin grooves from rusting, cold blue?

IDK if mine ever had a FSB on it but it is a surplus barrel and does have an exposed taper pin in front of the gas block that doesn't look like anything was done with it and has a bit of surface rust

Yes, that is exactly what NAS Crane did with 14.5" Govt barrels.  They then dimpled the barrels for set screws.  Nothing done to taper grooves for protection.

Hey guys, I just got a RIS2 rail (finally) and got a question: besides KAC, what other front sights fit flush on the rail? Metal, not plastic.

I’ve search around but haven’t found anything. TIA.

Generally YES, On a DD M4A1 for FSB, they used the existing barrel.  98% of the  time it was a 14.5" SOCOM barrel standard for the M4A1 at the time.  The other 2% used 14.5" Govt profile.  They are a PIA as you have to remove the FSB to install the rail then reattach the FSB.  USASFC thought they'll save money by reusing the existing barrels.  Which is a wear item.
