He can't run regular mbus sights on railed gas blocks. He'd have to use the Pros

I was pretty sure about that.  Magpul plastic is tough but not that tough.  I do like the Magpul Pro units, but at that price there are a few different options.  Troy, Midwest Industries, ?

One thing I forgot, the Magpul stock set came as a Matrix branded painted set.  Stock, handguard, grip, forward grip, magazine.  LGS had two sets in the dark metallic grey snakeskin looking pattern for $70 a set.  I figure if I don't like the paint I can just repaint them.  From a foot away it looks pretty nice.  We'll have to see how they look assembled.  The weekend of the 18/19 is assembly and test.  I have all the tools...

Change in direction on optics.  Daughter likes the reflex red dots, so a Primary Arms reflex sight not a Vortex.  Going to keep it light.

Woohoo!  Complete success!  My first AR, my first build!  I think I shot an AR once about 20 years ago.

I wanted to get first noise from this rifle today.  I was on a 2 hour drive back from an errand that took me right by a really nice range so I put the rifle in the car just in case I had the time.

Function tests worked great with snap caps.

One round in the mag, bang, bolt locks back.  I held it away from my face, so nothing on the paper at 50 yards.

Two rounds in the mag, , bang bang, perfect function.  Also held away from my face, so nothing on the paper.

Five rounds in the mag, five rounds on paper at 50 yards standing offhand!  No boresight or laser in the bore!  I love it!!!  This was Magpul MBUS Pro straight out of the box and right on the rifle.  It's a setscrew gas block, I put an AL bar on top of the gas block and one on the upper rail and eyeballed them coincident.  First time I've ever set up any kind of iron sights.

Ten rounds in the mag, eight more holes in the paper.

Last twelve rounds, ten more holes.

No misfeeds, malfunctions, no issues of any kind.

I failed to bring any target stand with me so the paper was just a loose 8.5x11 hanging from one corner from a nail sticking down from the (baffles? sand filled wooden walls above the target zone)  Some of the misses might have been from the wind blowing it. I'm stoked that most of the rounds were on paper!  I've never been super confident with iron sights before this.

Future plans for this rifle are a light, a red dot (might not be the PA reflex, do they all have automatic brightness?  need to research that), and lots of range time.  Maybe a carbine class this fall.

Parts on the way for the twin to this one, only difference is 300blk.  Going to need to crank up the reloading gear after I get a pile of once fired brass in the basement.

Picked up the rest of the parts for the 300 Blackout carbine today at the lgs.  16" Anderson M4 pattern barrel, bcg, ch, delta ring kit, front hg washer.  Small box, but about 2/3 of the cost.
