I am seeing a lot of used 552s in varying conditions being sold used right now. I know quite a few people don't like Eotechs for various reasons. I run Aimpoints on most of my guns since that is what I use at work and have no complaints. I have zero experience with Eotechs.

I am sure the reason a lot of them are being sold is to upgrade to later generations.

Is there any real issues with the Eotechs? It is kind of hard to cut through all the B.S. out there.

I am thinking of getting one to use on my suppressed 9mm SBR. I like the idea of using rechargeable AAs in it.

ETA:

What is the scoop on the pre F version ones?  Battery life is not a factor for me as I will be running rechargeables and it is going on a toy.

I've had two Rev F 552's shit the bed on me.  Bad battery connectors, battery drains, and one just plain died.

A lot of people including myself don't like the 552 because it sits too low.  I much prefer the 517s or 557s that have the lower 1/3 co-witness built in.

I have a 552 and have had zero issues.  Mine gets knocked around a bit from use and has held up better than any other optical sight I have ever owned.

I leave mine on when I am on duty and it takes over a month to run the batteries down.  My brother has the same kind purchased at the same time (they were gifts from our Dad) and his batteries last just days and he does not run his on while he is on duty like I do.  Bottom line some Eotech's have issues, but what mass produced product does'nt?

The battery drain problem is a known issue and will be repaired by Eotech.  I have no personal experience with this but I understand that it is for a fee but dont quote me on that.  My brother is about to move on to another sight so if I can talk him out of his I might be able to get back with you on this:).

Incidentally I have been using a Mako magnifier on a paintball quality swing to he side mount for the last 6 months with excellent results out to 400 yards..  There are better sighting systems out there for this kind of shooting I know, but I happened to already own the Eotech and a magnifier set up was cheaper than a comparable Eotech quality new scope sighting system.  Still I have been pleasantly surprised by the the set up.

Bottom line, if I found a smoking deal on a used Eotech 552I would take it and not look back.

If you look again at the EE I think you will see just as many Acogs on there as Eotechs. But I don't see anyone complaining about the Acogs.

I think people just want to try different things and can't always afford to updrade without moving out some older stuff. That's my case a lot of times.

On a side note, I have owned two trouble free Eotechs and two Aimpoints, also trouble free. If I could get the Eotech reticle in an Aimpoint body it would be heaven.

It's hard to imagine this thread not turning into another Eotech vs. Aimpoint thread, but I prefer Eotechs and have had no issues with mine. However, I have been tempted to sell and get one of the new Small XPS Eotechs. Maybe that is why so many used ones are out their now.

That is my opinion too.  Just like when Aimpoint introduces a new generation, people upgrade.  I really like the whole AA battery thing, so I will be picking up one before long.

I will freely admit to running only Aimpoints to this point in time, but as I pointed out, that is due to what I am issued on my duty weapon.  I have no problem being a sight whore just like I am a handgun whore and shoot almost anything.
