I'm looking to buy a trustworty AR15 (for self-defense). I have been thinking RRA. I had an Armalite, but you guys made it sound like it wasn't self-defense-worthy, so I sold it.

Or, should I wait and spend a little more on a piston one? (Ex: Patriot Ordnance Factory's P-415)

Sorry if I'm a little vague, I guess I don't know exactly what all to ask.

RRA, Colt, Bushmaster. They all put out a good product. No need to worry.

The verdict is still out on pistons and what they are actually bringing in terms of benefits, and what the downsides are. If I were buying a piston it would be a POF

On a side note. Don't forget to use good, well tested (by you), magazines. Could make the difference in a self defense situation.

I have the same question.

I just picked up my first AR but I'm already looking for another.

My suggestions would be.... in order (excluding NFA stuff):

Colt LE6920
Colt LE6721
Bushmaster Patrolman's Carbine (A3)
RRA (their M4gery model in A3)
Or a second-hand version of the above

You will soon forget the extra dollars you pay for the better gun, but will appreciate the quality for a lifetime.

I hate this response. Does it help me at all? No. Did I waste my time reading and responding to it? Yes.

What exactly should I use as my search guidelines? uhhh... "new AR"? Maybe you should include something like this when telling someone to do a search, or just not respond at all.

That's exactly what I did. It's like we have to buy our first, to know what we want and don't want. The first one always seems to be a trial AR.
