I started out cheap, then went with a Daniel Defense.  Buy quality so you don't regret it and spend more money later.

If I bought another rail I'd go with Midwest Industries, about $200.

The yhm stuff is really nice for the money, I used them religously when money was tight. Now I use larue and love it! MI is nice stuff too.

With the new design of yhm I don't see how you can go wrong.

I've been pleased with my SAMSON. easy install, solid lock up and no problems at all yet.

The new YHM has an improved anti-rotation device... miles ahead of their original product.  Nothing wrong with it at all.

I too started cheap, then went to LaRue.  But there is nothing wrong with the kit you are looking at... many people here are more than happy with their YHM equipment.
Reason I say that is I tried to put a TD grip on my out of spec rail.  They've adressed the spin but still put out rails not in line with everybody else.  I guess if you were to slap on covers and never expect anything else out them, YHM is alright.

I think he's talking about FF rails.  YHM FF railed handguards rotate and have out of spec rails?  If I were buying a FF rail system, I'd go with an expensive one, even if I had to wait.  DD is my favorite, but most of the ones named above are good rails.   I say most, because I haven't even seen a couple of the ones named.

I would (and did) get a used KAC RAS off the Equipment Exchange

For around $200 (MOL) you get a drop in rail (replaces standard handguards) that is rock solid and in use by literally 1,000's of front-line troops.

After all, it is nothing more than an anchor spot for other accessories (light, vertical grip, etc).

Ya know...

It's absolutely no doubt that the Fobus M33 HANDGUARDS are INFERIOR to every single aluminum railed forend available for the AR, and probably not the best option for the original poster.  BUT for what they actually are (handguards) they are very good quality.  They are thicker and heavier than any other HANDGUARDS I own, they have a very secure and tight fit, and they have a built-in rail that is parallel to the bore!

This is coming from someone who actually OWNS a set, also owns two Daniel Defense forends, and who has previous experience with several other forends...  They are great for what they are intended to do.  Heck, I have a set of SureFire M73 railed handguards for sale on the EE right now.  Guess what I put on there instead?  One of the two M33 handguards I had on another AR, and mated both with a Bushmaster handguard on the upper half.

I would say to XD that the YHM is the better choice of the ones he mentioned, but for anyone considering simply adding a bolt-on rail so they can add a foregrip or flashlight to their AR, I suggest to that person to consider a set of M33's first.

You don't have to like them, and you sure as heck don't have to use them, but to say "avoid like the plague" is a complete exaggeration based on internet lore and popular gear bashing, and may cause someone to spend more $$ than they needed to just to have name brand gear.  They aren't good enough for the Navy Seals, but they're more than plenty for 75% of the couch commandos on this here website (including me)
