Did a quick search and found nothing. Looking for input for some 308 and 223 ammo from Southwest Ammunition. Wondering how accurate it is. Also trying to understand what they mean by "Run & Gun" ammo and what the difference between that and there match grade ammo is. It looks like they are using the same components but still don't understand what is is.  Also what is "Military pulldown brass "? If anyone has any accuracy testing with that ammo it would be appreciated. Here is what I am looking at:

308 Run and Gun Ammo

308 Standard 175 Gr SMK

5.56 77 Gr SMK RUN N Gun

5.56 77 Gr SMK Standard

Is that good, bad or does not matter?

Military "pulldown" brass is from loaded ammo that was disassembled, not fired.

there was a thread about them recently, supposedly they use .mil brass that was special ordered with a russian yugo headstamp, though alot believe its actually yugo brass

The 308 is processed once fired Lake City brass. Don't know if there are any negatives or positives to using once fired LC brass over Winchester new brass. I read somewhere that LC brass has lower case capacity over new Winchester brass. There is a $5 difference in box. So that is a big deal, in regards to expense. In regards to the 223. I noticed that in the photo the primer is "red" or "painted red" don't know what that means. Just trying to make the best choice and still get a good deal. Buying the ammo for a class in April.

The red is supposed to be primer sealent, but like i was saying most here think they use russian yugo brass cases.

They claim its american made special order brass for the .mil that has the yugo stuff specially stamped on.

SWA posted on another thread and sounded very honest.

The brass is Privi Partisan (Serbian military type crimped primers) from pull down.
It was originally ordered by the US military, not used, pulled down and the components were sold.

Because SWA bought the unfired brass from the US military they (wrongly) assumed it was US.
Any one who has shot Privi white box M193 or M855 would recognize the head stamp and excessive amount of red sealant on the primer.

The ammo is getting great reviews and they claim to be very attuned to CS.

If I did not load I would try 1K of the preferred flavor and with money saved that 77gr in Privi cases looks like a bargain to me.

They have a limited supply of the pull down Privi brass so if that works as well as the new brass (and no reason it wouldn't) I'd consider stocking up at that price but only after a test

Back in the mid to late 80's I used to buy Hansen ammo that had a similar headstamp. It was all made in Yugoslavia. The 7.62X39 I got was berdan primed, non-corrosive, and headstamped IK 86. The .30-06 was headstamped IK .30-06, boxer primed non-corrosive. I also bought .45 ACP headstamped nny .45 ACP, and .357 Mag headstamped nny 88 .357 Magnum. Pistol rounds also boxer primed, non-corrosive. I shot several thousand rounds of Hansen, always thought it was pretty good.

Thank you sir for this. You are obviously someone who reads everything before pretending or assuming before you comment. I would like to send you some ammo of ours to test and possibly make a review. If you can pm your info. or call me that would be great. You sound like you would give an honest, fair and educated evaluation. Plus you reload and it would make for a good side by side comparison.

Thank you,
Zach

The brass is yugo brass(made in another country). It was once owned by the U.S.. From my understanding a U.S. company (unknown) purchased this loaded ammunition for use in a South
American country in the 80's. For some reason it did not make it there and ended up with the government.

I buy this stuff from a supplier of mine who purchased it from the U.S. government. He pulls the loaded ammunition apart and sales me the brass. I get it cheaper so I sale it cheaper.

FYI, I do use LC brass as well it just cost about $11 more per box. The IK brass is a great deal to buy and pass the savings to others. My savings is your savings.

Thank you,

Zach

Thanks for the reply and i mean no disrespect but you even state in this thread its brass made by yugo which if im not mistaken is serbian? Generally with a mild corrosive berdsn primer. Unless yall changed out primers

Good description of my run and gun 5.56 brass. I can tell you it is not corrosive.

I also use LC brass if that is what you are looking for.

I am as diverse as I can get right now with my products. More to come with the new year.

To this comment and I revert back to the other thread about this particular case. It is a small boxer primer, not berdan primed.

The 308 is processed once fired Lake City brass. Don't know if there are any negatives or positives to using once fired LC brass over Winchester new brass. I read somewhere that LC brass has lower case capacity over new Winchester brass.

Nato cases have always had smaller case capacity in the 308/7.62 brass.

OP I think you could do better than both. I would not pay for the premium ammo with  the win brass with the 175s, unless they sorted all the cases the newer win cases suck for any decent accuracy. I would go with the Fed match which you could get cheaper form PSA. For run in gun I would throw some privi 168s or the fed 168 which are both cheaper.

Winchester brass is more than sufficient for any practical accuracy requirements. Anyone who has shot any of our Win brass loads, or seen, or even  read a review knows this. One of our sponsored shooters won the Mammoth Sniper Challenge last year with our standard 308, off the shelf ammo, shooting beyond 800 yards. It is also much more durable, and preferred by reloaders, holding up to many more reloadings than Federal.

We have started a new product line using FC military brass and a different Hodgdon Extreme powder. Available with both 175 and 168 Sierra Matchkings. This load is less expensive than the Winchester brass ammo, less than $17.50 per box, with some specials we have going on now. It is the most accurate 308 we have ever sold, and is also very well suited to gas guns.

Our Run n Gun ammo is still true match ammo. It is $16.00 per box by the case, still less expensive than Federal. I'm a fan of Priv, especially their brass, but their match ammunition isn't really comparable to ours, accuracy wise. I'd buy their M80 ball for short range work before spending the extra money on the match.

Thanks,

Mike

Good luck getting the ammo... I placed an order for 600rds on Feb 14. over 4 weeks later and I'm still waiting for it to show up. I called them on Feb 23 asking about it, they said it would ship out next Wednesday the 29th. I didn't receive a UPS tracking number until Tuesday March 7th, which said it would arrive this Friday. Ammo still hasn't shown up and the tracking number still says that only a shipping label has been created for the order. I guess they printed a label and just have it sitting in their shop. Getting pretty annoyed.

Nice try, but I have six boxes of their ammo in safe.I like small business people so that is why I tried them out. I spent my life as a small business person so I always like to support them.It is stupid to start lying right off the bat with a new customer but it is what it is.Last month I bought 500rds of black hills from Steve at Triad and this AM I ordered 500 more from him.
I have been reading on this sight for a long time and buy from venders here; Rainier arms, SWFA, Brownells that I remember.I have 3 AR's and a .223 bolt gun for club shoots.

Sorry to hear about your experience Silver-Duck.  I believe what you state.  I am a fairly new customer to SW and had just the opposite experience pertaining to my 1st and 2nd orders.  Ordered on a Thursday and shipped the next day (Friday).  Zach and Mike have been straight up with me and always very helpful and accommodating at every turn bar none with me.  When my funds are better I will be buying more as their ammo shoots crazy accurate out of my Rock River AR.  Even the greatest of company's can be caught with their pants down due to any number of circumstances whether within or beyond their control.  I guess I was Yined and you were Yanged.  Until I'm Yanged, I will be back for more SW ammunition.  I respect your decision either way as I believe you made the decision you felt was right per your experience. !

You guys that have had smooth transactions must be lucky. They have been screwing me around with my order for over 5 weeks now. Not sure if they're outright lying or are just incredibly unorganized. I received the UPS tracking number 3 weeks ago and according to UPS they still haven't received the package, I guess they just have my ammo thrown in a corner of their shop collecting dust. Not to mention I can no longer reach them on the phone. Guess the one positive thing about this is I have decided to start reloading. If you want it done right, you have to do it yourself...

Ok since I am the one that started this thread I think its time I step in on this one. I ordered from SW at the start of a group buy and I can honestly say that SW has deliver on all what they promised to do. I asked when credit cards would be charged Mike/Zach came in and stated clearly that the CC would be charge a few days after the order was placed. I sent Zach a PM a few weeks later and said " Hey when will it ship out?" He said on Monday. Monday comes around and here is an email from UPS with a tracking number. As I sit here and type this I have a notice on my door of a missed UPS drop off (my fault) ammo is here and I am picking it up tomorrow. Ok so here is the deal.:

Order placed 02/20/2012 @ 11:13pm order #848
Shipped 03/19/2012
Received 03/21/2012

SW was clear on when the ammo would ship ( a week or so after the group buy ended ) they also stated CC would be charge a few days after order was placed. As far as I am concerned ( I am the one that started this thread) SW had delivered on all statements both on deliveries and customer service. All my pestering PM to Zach were answered in a timely manner and with great customer service. Any hey I did not order just 1 box I ordered 27 of them. Zach even at one point emailed me and told me not to worry they are on there way and I needed them from a Magpul class in April.

For me I am a first time customer and will be coming back to SW ammo!
