Howdy. Long story short I won a 6.8 SPC upper, suppressor, trust and tax stamp. I have been offered 300 BLK barrel instead if I am interested. Mainly doing some plinking, may try deer hunting but way down on my list. Have a .223 AR so I like the idea of mags etc working with 300 BLK. Any input or thoughts on pros and cons of either caliber? I have read up on both but I am wondering specific to my situation.

Also with the 300BLK I am leaning heavily towards a 2 stamp build and doing an sbr lower. Any thoughts on barrel length are appreciated.

Last but not least I have never had the chance to do a build. Upper comes with MOE furniture but I can tweak and pay the difference.

I have researched various boards, I have seen lots of pictures but I am hoping to get a highly functional, accurate (up to 300 yards) and effectively suppressed rifle out of this.

So...what I am really hoping to get is thoughts, ideas and comments from a much more experienced group and the various perspectives to make sure I make the most of this build.

This is the calling of .300 blackout.

Take the 6.8 SPC upper, suppressor, trust and tax stamp and be happy. The 6.8 SPC is a fantastic round with a lot of industry support. Check out 68forums.com for a bunch of useful information on the 6.8 SPC.

I agree. The 6.8 has more power & better trajectory than the 300 BO. Especially out to 300yards & beyond.
I recommend the 68forum too.

U have to be careful of the 6.8 homers on this forum they are going to say to get the 6.8 no matter what u tell them you want. Facts are the 300 blackout is a very capable rifle out to 300 yards for just about anything. Yes the 6.8 has a little more thump and will reach out further, but I dont see where you stated 300+ as a need. Also, the blackout is far superior when it comes to running a supressor, going sbr, and will use the same pmags you already have. On top of that 300 ammo is significantly cheaper. Sounds like what you are looking for is right in the 300's wheelhouse.

The .300 blackout is essentially the AK47 (125gr supersonic) and VSS Vintorez (220-240 gr subsonics) out of the AR15 platform.

Rather be a Homer than a macker
If hunting the 6.8 is a better round. Many have tried both side by side and said it's easy to see the difference in terminal performance. Using subsonic rounds to hunt deer and hogs is just asking to lose animals.

A) Who said anything about using subsonic for hunting
B) he listed several things that he wanted above hunting that the 300 is. Far superior for, but for some reason everyone always want sto focus in on what he said he was not a priority.
C) Again inside 300 yards like the OP stated supersonic loads for the 300 are more than capable for hunting.

if you're going to use the suppressor the 300 blackout is far superior. if you're going to go the short barrel root 300 is far superior. if you're going to shoot farther out unsuppressed, the 6.8 has a slight advantage. anything that you can shoot with a 308 at 500 yards you can shoot with 300 blackout at 250 yards.

?????

6.8 was made for short barrels and nothing beats it short

6.8 is far more functional, more lethal, has more energy etc etc

Yes if by nothing beats it you mean except the 300 blackout then u are correct

Yes if you mean slightly more lethal and less functional for what the op stated his needs are then u are correct again

Thanks for the input all. I have seen the article posted and many others which is why I am still trying to get more info...seems like 6.8 and 300 BLK are like asking about Ford vs. Chevy.

Assuming I go 300 & SBR. Any input on barrel length. I am leaning towards 10.5". I don't see any numbers that say longer barrel equals huge difference in ballistics but I am concerned about not having enough clearance between muzzle and my face. Joking but not really.

Any other input or thoughts would be appreciated. Any regrets or lessons learned from SBR crowd?

I personally like the Noveske 8.2", Vuurwapen blog did some tests with a 10" and 8" 300 blackout a year ago.

The velocity and accuracy data for the 10" 300BLK upper is as follows:

UMC 115 - 2101fps, SD 17, 2.8MOA

Remington Premier Match 125gr - 2103fps, SD 151, 2.9MOA

Atlanta Arms 125gr - 2162fps, SD 20, 3.6MOA

Gunn Ammunition 130gr "SOST" - 1887fps, SD 28, 4.2MOA

And for the 8"300BLK upper:

UMC 115 - 2001fps, SD 24, 1.9 MOA

Remington Premier Match 125gr - 2007fps, SD 26, 2.1 MOA

Atlanta Arms 125gr - 2053fps, SD 17, 2.7 MOA

Gunn Ammunition 130 - 1742fps, SD 21, 4.5 MOA
