If you get a chance .... shoot it.
The guy that brought it forgot links so we could only use 30 round mags.
Still worth it!

It is all fun and games untill you have to clean one, or any other belt-fed weapon for that matter, for an inspection by the Brigade Commander and CSM.

As a technical point, I'd have to disagree with the "any other" sentiment. Cleaning an MG-42 (and derivatives) is very easy - I'd say not much harder than an AR.

Great pic, Bryan

MG-42,the holy grail of firearms

Hell, the 30 round mags just mean you get to work on your reloads while ripping stuff apart!

And having done it a million times I would have to say PMCS on a Pig or M240B sucked. Especially right after a big LFX. The rest of the kit including the M122 "rust-pod", and flexmount for the M240, the T&E, spare barrels, AN-PEQ, optics, BFA, and barrel bags made the job an extreme PITA. My comments was taking all that into account, because it all gets PMCS'd, not just the weapon....

Only thing worse then cleaning one, is cleaning the whole platoons...

Been there, done that, and thank God I don't have to anymore! Oh, and don't forget the 150 M16A2s.

Been there, done that; got the scrapping tool to prove it.

I noticed that the FH is an older SAW FH, you should tell the guys to upgrade to an FNC FH.

ya you pretty much suck...lucky bastard

I've shot the M-60 and .50 caliber M-2 many times, but the SAW was adopted after I left active duty. It would be great fun to shoot, but like others have said, cleaning a crew served weapon is quite the chore!

Gotcha - the tripod for the MG-42 is a bitch, even if the gun itself is a thing of beauty of simplicity and design, and keeping track of all the small pieces and accesories for each gun sucked when I was a platoon sergeant.

Ah, I miss my SAW. The last one I carried had a SN of 66674. I called it "The Beast" for ovbious reasons.

I don't miss mine, I had a "jam o matic". You got to understand when I had one there were new to the Army. When it did fire it was like shooting my AK at 300 yards.

I am by the grace of god, not a saw gunner. My buddy has to carry one of those everywhere. Fun to shoot, but a pain to live with.

You think cleaning a SAW is bad? Try cleaning a MK-19 in the desert with little cleaning tools available. I was lucky the thing didn't jam on me when I needed it the most.

I was assigned a MK-19, a SAW and a 9mm, so you can imagine how I felt when it was time to clean up the weapons.

We had custom covers for our MK-19s made of NYCO cloth (Winter BDU Cloth) and in 3C pattern (along with ruck covers and scope covers - all custom made by a SFC in our company)

Wish I hadn't given my rucksack cover away, I know that cover makes a perfect spare tire cover (for those of you Jeep owners, you know that I mean )
