I've got a buddy getting interested in the retro world. Does anyone have the link to where he can download the pdf of The Black Rifle?
Also, from what I can find the first 14.5" barrels came with the introduction of the A2s in the early 80s. Anyone know any different?

I don't have a link, but 14.5" barrels were common in the USAF Security Police in 1979, long before the A2s introduction.  They were a "pencil barrel" with a 1/12 twist.  The factory produced carbines with them in the late 1970s, 653 with forward assist, and 654, without forward assist.
