I have one that has fired over 5-6k and is still fine. I hope this helps. |

The extractor will probably fail before the bolt. I had extractor failure at about 12,000 rounds.

Not being a smart ass but your grand-kids will/can be shooting the same gun & bolt. Unless you shoot 400-500rds a week for many many years?

While bolts are routinely rebuilt (new extractor, springs, rings, etc.), it is rare for military rifles to get new bolts. Occasonally one will break, so it does happen, but most M16s will be demilled with their original bolt in place.
The only exception was that the early chromed bolts and bolt carriers were replaced (in the late 60s) due to chrome-related problems. -Troy |
