I know most of the mechanics of firing occur in the upper receiver. However, is there a life expectancy of a lower receiver? If so, how many rounds could one put through it.

Given proper care, and no outright abuse, basically forever. There are still perfect receivers from the early 60's.

they have been tested to well past 80,000rounds (I'm sure there have been ruined recievers but I havn't seen any). If you have a pre-ban or registered MG reciever these I believe can be replaced by the original MFG if they are ruined or out of spec. If that was your worry (as far as post ban recievers who honestly cares if they lasted 2 years they would be worth the $90-$130 they cost.)

pre-ban semi auto receivers can be replaced by the original manufacturer registered transferrable mg receivers cannot be replaced.

IIRC Bushmaster has used two lowers to test fire every upper they have ever made. That is hundreds of thousands of rounds.

A good forged lower will love you long time.
