I actually started this topic over on the GD forum because I didn't know that there was an optics forum on the site. Since this scope isn't mounted on an AR, I didn't even consider looking within the AR-15 Forum.

Here's a linky-link to the original thread that I started this morning.

Help? Anyone?

simple. the mk4's have target turrets and utilizes the multi coat 4 lens system.  the vx3 on the other hand doesn't have the target turrets but has the match index lens system which is better glass than the mk4.  only the post 2004 and newer vx3's have the match index lenses.  the ones pre 2004's have just the regular multi coat 4 lens.  that's why I chose the vx3 for my wssm ar. it's got better glass/the same or better range of adjustments/ and it's cheaper.  I don't think the target turrets are much needed in hunting situations and I'd prefer to have a clearer image than to have target turrets.

I have both scopes with the Mk4 on an AR and a VX3 on a hunting rifle. The VX3 without a doubt has the better optics. While both scopes are nice the VX3 has better glass. hippie.gif

Mark 4 scopes are based on a VXIII scope in th first place. The old scopes had Multi coat lenses, the new Mark 4 are the same as the new VXIII.
