I am just finishing a 6.8 with a YHM upper and need to add glass.    Yes, I know the more you pay the better, but I want to make sure I spend money in the right places.   I have had awesome luck with my $100 Leupold binoculars, so I am confident in their entry level products.   The unit will be mainly used for hog and deer mounted on a GG&G quick detach.   I like variable power and as much eye relief as possible.   I am leaning towards the two scopes listed and wondering if the Mark AR is worth the extra $?

I have a Mark AR 3-9x40mm with the mil-dot reticle.  I am very pleased with it.  Unless there's something drastically different about the overall construction of the Mark AR vs. the rifleman, the only differences between the two that I can tell would be the eleveation knob is a tactical style turret which also has the bullet drop compensator for a 55gr bullet.  I don't shoot 55gr bullets.  I think Leupold will revise it for what I do shoot but haven't gotten there yet.  The windage knob is a standard adjustment screw found on most other scopes; not a turret.  To save an extra $100 I would just get the rifleman for what you intend to use it for.

Go with the Mark AR then.  You can get it with Mil-Dot reticle.

man, get an Accupoint 3-9 milldot / green dot

I have been a 6.8 user/hunter for several years, the Accupoint is a fantastic scope and not that much more $

I think you'll be happier with the VX-2 over the Mark-AR, doesn't have a tactical name or anything, but it's the same glass without the obnoxious turrets. Usually about $20 or so cheaper. The rifleman is a fair scope for the price, but you will get your monies worth stepping up to the VX-2 glass.

I purchased a rilfeman for my 6.8 and wished I hadn't. I've had issues with the eye relief and the windage and elevation adjustment are mushy, no clicks, just mush.

The new VX2 would be my vote also on your budget. Just keep in mind these are hunting scopes and therefore are not as durable as there tactical line up.

SWFA has a few Zeiss Conquests with the Z600 reticle on the sample list for under 500 if thats something you would be interested in.

Thanks for the great feedback.   I can now take the riffleman out on the options.   Buying a scope is like everything else with AR's, so many options and tough on the wallet.

Tough on the wallet. Good for the soul.
