I've got an Olympic SS marked 11.5/5.5 barrel.

I've looked it over pretty well and cant seem to find any signs that the flash hider is pinned and welded on.

Is it possible that the FH is pressed on and the barrel is in fact not threaded.

There is no washer behind the FH between the barrel

I have never heard of that on an AR. For one thing, I don't understand the law to allow that procedure to meet the permanent attachment requirements. Look VERY, VERY closely...those blind pins can be hard to see. And when permanently attaching, a washer is not needed.

No, the only ones that were pressed on were on 16" AWB compliant barrels. That would be rather obvious to you.

there will be two blind pins, one on either side of the muzzle, in the rear flange of the flash suppressor. Look in the rear annular groove and you should see some slag from the welder.

This is exactly how the last Oly 11.5/5.5 barrel that I cut apart was setup...

I ended up being able to trim away most of the rear flange, add a crush washer and re-permenant attach the 5.5 after I replaced the barrel nut that the guy had Fubar'd...

I used to chuck up the extension and put a center in the FS (had an adaptor) and then turn the OD at the rear of the FS down so the heads of the pins were exposed, that usually uncovered both ends of each pin. From there just had to drive out the pin with a punch and unscrew the FS.
