I just bought my first AR (Oly K3B-Mil4 w/ flat top receiver & FIRSH )and I'm trying to decide if I want something like a TacPoint, or a high-powered scope.  In addition to what kind of optics I want to use....I need to decide how to mount it to my new gun.  It seems like the options are endless when it comes to mounting optics on an AR.

Can you guys post some pics and give me some info on your choice of optics (why?) and how you choose to mount them.

Thanks

The only optic I have (that's worth a damn)

EOTech 512 mounted directly to the flattop rail. I don't have a BUIS yet because when I get my Sabre Defence barrel tomorrow, the EOTech is going on that Mid-Length build.

I'll most likely go with an ARMS #40, but I don't know if I'll get a riser for the EOTech or not. I would like it to sit above the FSB a little more, but I have no problems shooting with it right now.

I got the EOthingy because I liked the 1MOA dot in the center. More precise (IMHO, of course) for the longer shots (400, 500, 600, and 700yds) that I play around with when the corn and beans are down around here in the Fall, Winter, and early Spring. This is all with the appropriate Kentucky Elevation, of course. I thought the 4MOA dot of the Aimpoint was going to cover too much real-estate at the longer ranges, so that was a big reason I didn't go that route.

Pile on top of that that the EOTech is made in the USA, was cheaper because I didn't need to buy an expensive mount, and it came in a model with VERY common batteries (AA) so the choice was easy for me.

That's what I bought, how I mount it, and why I bought it. Hope this helps.

It all started with this:

Getting bitten by the ACOG bug:

The Mini ACOG above on a carry handle:

Musical ACOGs, the TA11D form above on my skunk carbine:

Aimpoint mounted with Larue cantilever mount. Both are extremely rugged and the aimpoint is very fast and accurate at close range.

EOTech with Bushmaster CCH BUIS. I’m waiting for a good range report on the new YHM EOTech riser. I’d like to know if it will allow me to keep my CCH BUIS. I like the set up but a lower 1/3 co-witness would be better.

What is the better choice when mounting a big 40+mm scope......low mount rings + a riser block....or no riser block and high rings?

I'm trying to mount a 42mm scope on my AR with a flat top receiver.

High rings, NO riser.    I've done the riser route, and wasn't happy.  Ended up too high, for one thing, but it's just another set of parts & tolerances to go wrong.

I like the Leupold CQT very much.   Both of these are on LaRue QD mounts.

Here is a pic of my long range and short range optic set ups.

The scope is a Mueller 4-16X50 IGR/AO.

Good luck.

The ACOG mount on top is actually setup for the lower receiver, thats why the throw levers aren't  fully seated...

Well I finally got my Oly K3B set up the way I want it.  I put a Nikon 3x9 ProStaff scope on it.  The mounts are "high" see-thru type.

What do you think?http://www.swmosportbikes.com/forums/attachment.php?s=&postid=52537
