I'm looking to get Lens covers for my Leupold MK AR 3x9, and don't know what size I need. Is that the "objective" size, which is 40mm?

My first piece of glass, so I apologize for the novice question.

You have a number of options.

1.  If it is a Mark AR, you can use the same lens covers that work for the same magnification VX-1 Leupold scopes.  Go to Butler Creek's website and look up what fits the VX-1 in that power range.  Most people find a local gun shop that sells Butler Creek and take the scope in and "try" fit them to make sure they fit is correctly.  I've used Butler Creek. They are "pretty good."  Will not stand up to a lot of abuse, but will protect your scope.

2.  Leupold makes really nice Alumina metal lens caps for many of its scopes, including your Mark AR.  They screw into the objective housing and into the back of the eyepiece.  They also fold flat, when open.  Very well made but a bit pricey.  They are worth it, if you can spring for them.  I don't think the VX-R eyepiece is the same as the Mark AR, though.
