If it's in the new catalog it must be well hidden. I've looked through the latest catalog 20 times and the only .308 I can find is the Aussie stuff, the SA and the usual commercial loads. What page is this on?

It is still the best ammo out there for the Swede. If you need good ammo, this is the stuff to get, but it is NOT Hirtenberger. |

Ahhhhh yes, now I see why I couldn't find the Hirt .308 ammo.....there was none! Hehe. Yeah, I see the 6.5x55 stuff and if I had a rifle chambered for that caliber I would probably buy some of this.
FWIW, the description starts out by saying "this is 1970's production by Hirtenberger Austria, made for the Swedish Army". I have no idea if this is true as SG sometimes gets their info screwed up (such as their listed .308 muzzle velocities of 2,252 fps...lol) but that's what it says. Sure is pricey whoever made it though, that much is certain. -Charging Handle |

It really isn't all that pricy considering that it has all been "gone" for the last year and a half.
I have more than I will ever shoot, but this stuff goes for about $14 a box in my area when you can find it. All Swedish military ammo in this caliber is made to Match standard. It would be like ALL U.S. military 7.62 being Lake City Match. An example of how flat this round shoots - This past weekend I shot a ground hog at 325 yards, holding only 4 inches high. I had a dead on zero at 100 meters. Of course the bullet took 3.7 seconds to get there, but it did the job. |

An example of how flat this round shoots - This past weekend I shot a ground hog at 325 yards, holding only 4 inches high. I had a dead on zero at 100 meters. Of course the bullet took 3.7 seconds to get there, but it did the job. What is really amazing is that 300 ft/sec ammo can shoot that flat! |

OOps, screwed up on the math. Don't do math and post while tired.
2.6 seconds. Trust me, it seamed like a long time. Everyone thought I missed and started to look away from their binos or scopes. |

Those bullets don't have any backspin you know! |

Ok, now that I am fully caffinated, I see what I am doing wrong. I was trying to make the math fit my impresion of what happend.
The ammo that is the subject of this thread is rated at 2,800fps in the M96 with 28 inch barrel. The ammo I was useing is rated at 2,600fps in the M96. I was useing an M38 with 21 inch barrel, so knock off ~100fps to be on the safe side. So I will say ~2,500fps. 325 yards = 975 feet. =.39 seconds. Math is not my subject in case you hand not noticed. [:(] |
