I am reloading some Lake City brass. The primers are going in rather hard with my hand priming tool. I noticed a ring around the primer pocket. was that a crimp? I am used to seeing the 3 line crimps on berdan primed stuff but never reloaded it of course. I noticed I have some Lake City brass eloads and it looks like the guy reamed the primer pocket. I did that to a few and it seamed to help.
Is that what I need to do?

Yes, LC brass has crimped primers (except white box M-118 173 gr Match 7.62X51). Yes, the ring around the primer was/is the crimp. Yes, that is one of the ways to remove the crimp (before re-priming).
