In any case it's congress and the senate who would decide on a new ban, not the president or his cabinet. they can push for it, but they can't force it if the senate and house don't agree. All they can do is Veto. They can't pass a law like that by executive order.
So the senate and house races will be much more important than who becomes president in this respect.
Don't forget; Bush said he would sign the ban renewal, it's Tom Delay(R) who you can thank for the ban sunsetting, and having the guts to stand up and say the law was worthless.
IMO even though the president knew full well his house reps wouldn't let it get to his desk, saying that he "would sign it if it got to his desk" gave the law undue credibility that did not help further our rights.
I would have had more respect for Dubya had he had the balls to reject it out of hand instead of playing stupid political games. But then he just says what Dick and Carl tell him to say.
It's a real shame a second republican candidate can't run against a standing president, or that you can't vote for the standing vice president as president and vice versa.
