I had my first try at the KG Gun Kote product. I used titanium 2400 series applied with an airbrush. The lower was new an relatively clean. I heated and cleaned twice with non-chlorinated brake cleaner. Then sprayed k-phos over piece in a fogging application. After 20 minutes I reheated the lower to 120 degrees and sprayed with the titanium color. Baked at 325 for 1hr 20min. Here are some pics of the outcome. Very happy and surprised how well it applies.

It looks awsome!.  Prior to cleaning, did you have to media blast or sand to rough up the surface?

That looks really good.
Well Done!

Planning anymore pieces to coat?

Because the lower is anodized aluminum KG recommends going straight onto that. No sanding or media blasted needed. Other metals/finishes would require aluminum oxide blasting.

Going to also do an upper, buffer tube, and hopefully a Noveske NSR if I get my hands on one.

very nice looking. does that coating improve the durability or make it easier to clean or is it simply a finish you like?.

I honestly picked it mainly because I liked the finish. It is supposed to be easier to clean and has a self lubricating property to it. The durability will be a test of time. It has a very high hardness rating (9H) and good abrasion resistance.

Before seeing your finish i was not a fan of multi-colored guns, but i like that subtle color difference on yours.  cant wait to see it assembled.

Durability is a function of prep.  The mag on the left was cleaned but not media blasted.  The one on the right was blasted with 150 grit aluminum oxide.  The finish failed on the left one after just a few cycles in and out of the gun.  The right one has been in and out more than 100 times.  As said above, Parkerized/anodized parts don't need blasting -- just REALLY good cleaning.  There just needs to be a little texture to the finish for a good grip.

ETA:

Where are my manners?  That's one nice looking stick, OP.

Looks sharp.

Kinda reminds me of the older Colt gray M16s.
