The ring of the #22M68 should be making contact with the ML2 on the bottom and top, as well as the sides.

It's making contact, but the upper ring and lower ring do not touch in the middle where the 2 allen head screws are on each side.

Ah. No, some space is normal. If they clamp all the way together the ML2 tube will squash in. |

That's fine, make it so that there is an equal amount of space on both sides. Did you use loctite? |

Normal. Just remember to screw down the bolts in a criss-cross pattern.
