I agree! All my ARs have Hogue grips (black and OD). In fact, I also have several pistols with Hogue grips.
The main downfall of the Hogue grip is they are too inexpensive. To have a truly high-end AR you must spend a minimum of $30 on the grip.  Scot |

Mine was only $16 from Botach Tactical. Is there another one that's more expsensive? If so, what's the difference?

I love the Hogues. The shape is comfy and the texture is grippy without being rough or sticky.

At least you learned that you don't have to spend a ton of money to get something good for your AR.

Is there an aftermarket grip plug that will fit the Hogue AR grips? Just trying to inprove on a good thing. RS

Congrats on what i think is the best idea in customizing/comfortizing the AR.

My Houges are much better than the Ergo I bought. I didn't like the Ergo at all. Houge will be on all my ARs.

Although there are other good grips out there, you pretty much summed it up in a nutshell. Hogue is best IMHO. |

I love my hogue grips as well. Only one problem- that gap right at the triggerguard. I fixed it by butchering a gapper to fit. If you have the same problem, you should try it.

Not to sound stupid but how hard is it to change out grips? I would like to switch to a Hogue on my Armalite M15A2NM.

Thanks ST5 and Breycor. The A2 grip and the Hogue are like comparing apples and oranges. "Keeps falling out" is not a good thing here. And I refuse to put "tape up grip plug" to the list of "1001 Things you can use Duct Tape on". Wish Hogue wold just produce one and sell it as a complete A2 Grip. It would cost them what, a dollar. Do a 100% mark-up on the plug, include it in the grip, and it would still very reasonable priced. Just my two cents worthh.gif

All you need to do is turn the rifle over and look down inside the grip. Remove the screw and then slowly pull the grip up, and off. Just be careful not to loose the selector detent spring. Put the new grip on, and make sure the spring is lined up, and tighten the screw. The only real thing you'll have to do, is first determine what type of screw you have holding the grip on. Some use screws that you need a slot blade screw driver, and some use one that requires an allen wrench to remove. I'm not sure which type Armalite uses. |

While I was at Blackwater I was talking with a guy who was with the "State Department". Both of the grips on his M16 had duct tape on them, to hold extra batteries for his electronics. |

Hunt; Regarding changing grips. Remove magazine and clear weapon.
Look into the base of the present grip and you will see an Allen type screw holding the grip to the receiver body. Remove this screw and pull straight down on the grip. BE CAREFULL here, there is a small spring that pushes on the detent for the safety. KEEP TRACK OF THIS SPRING. Place the spring into the small hole for it in the new grip and reinstall the new grip. Don't ask how I know so much about this spring, please. Dave |

I've got one as well, and I'm extremely pleased. It's a shame they only come in black or green, though. Coyote brown or desert tan would be nice...

I just picked one up also for my AR. The feel is so much better. I paid $18.50 for mine. Aren't the RRA ones the same but havethe RRA logo on them?

yes, as the other post says where to find 'em. but be careful, any, and I mean ANY cleaning solvent, lube, WD-40, whatever, gets on it and you will one day look down and find it gone. It just won't stay in place. hard to avoid solvents getting on it, but if you can it makes a great little stash for- whatever |

You MAY have trouble with the spring being too long with a hogue grip. This results in the safety selector not turning. I had this problem on both my grips and solved it by snipping off one coil of the spring at a time until it fit. |

The standard A2 grip that came with me Bushmaster was rubbin' raw my fingers. So the Hogue grip was my first and best mod to date. I can shoot all day now with it on; what a huge difference just changing out the grip made. The Hogue grip made shooting the AR even more enjoyable.
