This weekend I went jack hunting outside of Burns Oregon with a few friends and my woman.  We all had a great time and I couldn't think of a more perfect weekend.    So great, I figured I would share with people I know can appreciate it.  So here we go..

We came over from Bend, about 3 hours west of Burns.  My girlfriends father owns 1800 acres of property, basically used for bird hunting and a place that I think he comes to get away from everything.  It's very flat and very dry this time of year.

Departure was around 6:30am so we could get an early start and a full days worth of shooting.  Got there and and got right to it.

Here's me.  I was anxious to get out.

Everyone got in their last minute sight ins and configurations.  Three of us brought AR-15's and one brought his SKS and his .308

The country really is beautiful, the weather got better and better the whole time we were there.
http://csnwn.bendtel.net/derek/img_3648.jpg

We hopped into the truck and headed out, the best spot is about a quarter mile from the lodge.

First Blood!  And guess who got it :)

This one here was hit from behind while on a dead sprint.
http://csnwn.bendtel.net/derek/img_3656.jpg

Same rabbit, but each of us were standing by a sizable chunk that was flung on impact.
http://csnwn.bendtel.net/derek/img_3659.jpg

He's not going to be going anywhere.
http://csnwn.bendtel.net/derek/img_3660.jpg

These are from day two.  A lovely afternoon.

All four of us, from the left.  Jake, Eric C., Eric J., Derek (me)

http://csnwn.bendtel.net/derek/img_3669.jpg

I hit this one from behind, running away from me.  The leg on the left flew literally 8 feet straight up on impact.  It slid about five feet from its momentum, had to finish this one off.

Inside, Pretty much one big room with random furniture in it.  Bedrooms consist of a room with 4 twin beds and two other more private rooms.

I dropped one of the pork chops hock.gif, good thing there was an extra.

Sunrise Sunday Morning.  I wasn't up to see it first hand but the 2nd picture is awesome.

More Killing.

Three Killers.
http://csnwn.bendtel.net/derek/img_3698.jpg

This picture was taken to try and capture the perspective of one of Eric's shots.  Picture was taken at the shot, and the impact was at Eric (white shirt, hands up).  He was probably 200 yards out  on the hill.
http://csnwn.bendtel.net/derek/img_3700.jpg

At the end of the trip the kill count was somewhere around 75 between all of us.  My DPMS performed flawlessly, it's first real taste of action.

These are just some of the highlights, Everything I took can be found at HERE

Please feel free to post comments/questions.  This is my first post, hope it gets everyones approval.

looks like fun. Tell that guy that shooting rabbits with a shotgun isn't hunting, its cheating!

The guy with the shotgun was using steel shot, and using it mainly in the area where the sage brush is too tall to see anything over 10 feet away.  As far as the eating, no thanks :)  We shot mainly because of the massive holes they dig all over the property.  He has livestock/horses and they tend to break their legs if they step in one.

What rabbit.  I only saw pelts with mush inside them.  And outside for that matter.

Derek,

Great pictures.  Now here's the important part - pay attention.  MARRY THIS GIRL!  She appears not to have devil horns or weigh 853 pounds and her dad owns this place.  Go boy go.

What type of ammo was you using in your ARs?  FMJ or HP?  Because those are some spectacular holes.

Well, I doubt seriously there would of been enough anyway to feed 5 people and I know Katie would of had no part of that.  Besides, everything that was killed the first day was so unrecognisable, the meat was completely ruined.  The 2nd day there were some straight through shots but very few.

Haha, oh man.  In a place like this, where god only knows what has been dropped on that floor the 5 second rule drops to about .5 seconds.  Especially when it was coated in BBQ sauce :)

Cottontails = tasty
Jackrabbits = dogfood or coyote bait

That is all.

We saw a couple Cottontail but they are VERY hard to hit with rifles and i doubt there would be much left to eat.

As for eating Jackrabbit, I will eat almost anything but that is even beyond my palette.

He thinks shooting terrorists is better than shooting rabbits, and you make shots as his religion?

WTF is wrong with you?

Do any of you people ever get out of your little section of the world and try to open your eyes?  Stop and think about differences in culture, what an embarassment some of you are.
