I went to the gunstore where I usally buy my ammo to pick up some Hornady reloads and some XM193.  So I tell the guy to give me some of the Hornady and a few boxes of XM193.  He then tells me that the price of XM193 has gone up.  For a while it was $5 box and recently went up to $5.50 which I really didn't mind so when he said it went up in price I thought he was talking about the recent .50 hike, but he wasn't.  The new price is $7.25 a box.  I asked why was it so much and he says that they had to send a bunch of it to New Orleans and it is also becoming very hard to get and that is the reason for the major price hike.

Is XM193 really becoming scarce or is this just typical gunshop BS?  It seems like total BS to me

The real reason is all the members of AR15.com are buying it up.

thanks guys, I was just about positive it was complete BS but just wanted to make sure.
It just really pisses me off.   I buy my ammo there because it's on my way to work and to my parents house so I'm always going by there.  I usally pick up a few boxes whenever I drive by which I like doing instead of shelling out a couple hundred at one time.
The next time I go in there I am going to call him on it.  I like how they blamed New Orleans for the price hike

Our agency as others around here use XM193 but for practice only. And thats only because on our contracts when we order from Federal they will send mixed lots of American Eagle and than some XM193. Duty use its Federal 55 grn. Tactical Bonded.

I do, for training.

Our only guideline is "55gr. FMJ from a quality manufacturer" for duty.  So I use Q3131A.

XM193 is still relatively hard to get, but that price is ridiculous.

If I lived near that gunstore, I'd being dropping in from time to time. Good comedy is all too rare.

The New Orleans thing may be BS, but you might want to check the "Ammo Shortages" FAQ tacked to the top of the page.

Woe to you who didn't stock up on a SHTF stash when they were selling it for ~$160/case.

$5/box is just stupid. Hell, you can buy 68+ gr OTMs for that price.

Ah the gunstore. High prices and rock bottom service! At my local store, XM193 is $100.00 for 500 rounds, and they have plenty of it. Go in your local store and tell them you have a round stuck in the chamber and would they look down it and check it out? hug.gif

I know what you are saying and prices are going up and up.

But that is not a problem when you have a Dillon cranking out 6-7k a day in the shop and I load them for far less than 160.00 per 1k with QC that exceeds Black Hills rounds, I have found 193 ammunition to be substandard and with SHTF I would not trust them with my life.

Lot 42 thru 57 was hit and misses to the point that you could audibly and visually discriminate the lack of constancy in the ammunition.
