Colt 9mm AR uppers are blowback and does not have a gas tube hole in the receiver.
ETA: Colt 9mm receivers does not have a forward assist. they also have a different brass deflector and ejection port cover. |

They also don't have the case deflector "lump" and the forward assist.
You can use a .223 upper for 9mm, but you can't use a 9mm upper for .223. |

Note: Internally they lack a half moon cutout which in a 5.56 is the space where the cam pin moves to when the bolt and carrier are locking the breech.
