Is it normal for a chrome plated bolt to just slide out from the upper with just a thump?

Hi guy, I have a Young Mfg chrome plated bolt & it functions fine. But, recently I noticed that it slide in & out of my BMF upper very easy, as a matter of fact it would slide out from my upper with the barrel up & a little shake/thump. I checked headspace & it was O.K. Buy my regular BMF bolt would not do that! Is that normal for a chrome plated bolt? Btw I bought the chrome bolt from Dan Young at last year SAR show. Thanks in advance!

I've had regular carrier groups that wouldn't "lock" into the upper very well after a while. It's just a function of the parts wearing in. If the rifle is functioning fine I wouldn't worry about it at all. New gas rings might get rid of it if it really annoys you.

Just read yesterday in a magazine "If you take your B/C group out and extend the bolt from the carrier assembly and stand it on the bolt end. If it collapses,you need new rings."

Check the gas rings.

Hi Triggerbender, When you said stand it on the bolt end do you mean the bolt carrier end or the bolt face with locking lugs? Thanks guys for your replies.

I dont know about the chrome parts causing the problem, but if the bolt will move on its own weight the gas rings need to be replaced. They are cheap and easy to replace.
