I like the idea of a .30 conversion that only requires a barrel swap and have shot them several times, but I want to know if investing in a barrel and probably building another upper would be worth the money.  I don't reload and the lack of available ammo is keeping me from ordering parts.  If I decide to fo, the setup would be a 16" carbine length unsuppressed upper.  Opinions?

Fo.

With you there.  Speak English this is not GD.

If you are not going to reload for it right now do not do it. Unless you have expendable income to buy loaded munitions.
Link Posted: 12/12/2013 3:36:48 PM EDT
Thats my concern.  I don't reload and nobody in the area stocks it so I'll have to rely on online sources.

Don't buy it then. Very pricey to use without reloading. Plus if you don't plan to suppress it, there are better options out there. I own one, but I reload

look for ammo here use cupon code 300BLK to get 50.00 off the bulk pack . makes it .60 cents a round

16" unsuppressed?  No I would not go blkout.
Link Posted: 12/12/2013 4:29:09 PM EDT
It is without a doubt a re-loaders cartridge.  But a lot of guys get it and don't re-load.  It has  a lot of pluses

Ammo is coming in.   An LGS just had several boxes of Remington 220 subs for $24 a box

Do it. I have a 16" and shoot supers, it runs great and is far more accurate than I expected. Check Freedom Munitions for bulk .300. For reman it's damn good stuff.

I don't know why more people haven't adopted 300 black yet.

Its ballistics are incredible. Gotta be the most impressive all-around cartridge for the AR-15 platform.

Only appeal the blackout has is to go suppressed.
Link Posted: 12/12/2013 4:50:04 PM EDT
if youre not going to sbr and suppress dont bother with 300blk

Long story. No acronym. In ARF speak means "yes" or "go" depending on question or use. Lol! I tried searching for the in depth version of its origin but couldn't find it for you.  I'm too tired to peck it out on my iPad right now and not the place to do it. I wish they would pin the story in GD. Lots of people are WTF? when they are constantly seeing it used.

In the spirit of staying on tech track, lots of fans out there for the .300 BLK. It serves a purpose.  I don't have a need for one myself and I reload. That said, I helped a co-worker pick one out yesterday. He shot his buddy's .300 a few times and is in love with it and he does not reload and has no plans to suppress in the near future.

From a cost standpoint I guess it doesn't make any less sense than having an AR10 with the insane prices of 7.62 ammo these days and I think everyone should have an AR10 or its kin. For myself, it's the .300 is not a priority at the moment.

Fo.  Great caliber and ammo is pretty easy to find these days.  Great ballistics super or sub.

Ammo is not easy to find..  Unless you like paying top dollar.   If you reload..  300 blackout is awesome.

'Bout like a 30-30, only with a pointy bullet. What is so incredible about that?

I was born an AR in my hands. Behind the gun I will make my final stand

300 blk is best with a suppressor.

If I could afford the ammo I would get an upper for sure.

But is over $1 per round which is crazy expensive.

"Fo," I guess.

Look at it this way: the 300 BLK is the AR-friendly rebirth of the original "assault rifle" cartridge, the 7.92 Kurz, in a package that weighs half as much.

Closest you're gonna get to the Sturmgewher and its cartridge is a 7.62 AKM.  I already have one.  Im looking for a good alternative caliber for my AR without having to replace most of the base weapon and mags.  If I really want to cheap out I can buy a barrel and swap them over when I want.  Im asking more about the ammo availability since I don't reload.

Look at its ballistics out of just a 9" barrel. Then toss a can on that 9" barrel and shoot it suppressed. It's hard not to love that round.

Within 300 yards, the 300 black can certainly be argued to be the best round available in the AR-15 or even AR-10 platform.

That's incredible considering its light and compact package.

the point of caliber for me would be as a suppressor host, but if you're not doing that....

I'm not knocking the round, it's on my to do list after the first of the year, a suppressed 9". The 300BLK's forte is it's versatility; subs, supers, short barrel, long barrel. It does it all. It is a very competent round, but incredible is stretching it a bit.
