If the condition of the finish is good on it, it would be worth it to me. I own a Bushy, Colt and Oly A2... the only difference with mine is that it's 20" HBAR. I can drivce tacks with mine and have cleaned a target at 200 yards. It's up to you though. Keep in mind you CAN NOT shoot 5.56 NATO though an Oly as you can a Bushy or Colt. That's my .02

Except for the SUM marked barrels, they are 5.56mm rifles. Look on the barrel right in front of the sight base, it should say 556.

Thanks for that tip. I appreciate it.

FREE is too much to pay for an OLY!  Don't waste your money.

If it's in good shape i would take in a heartbeat.  I don't know why you wouldn't be able to shoot 5.56 through it, I do it regularily in my 16" Olympic Hbar without any problems whatsoever.

As an update to the rifle, I picked it up today. It is marked 556 on the barrel in front of the sitepost, and the lower is marked .223/.556. So I guess I can fire either round out of it.

The upper itself is unfired. It looks immaculate. The barrel on the upper is marked with an SS. I assume this means it is a stainless steel barrel? Not sure on that. I can find no markings on the upper to tell me the manufacturer of the upper, and I also cannot figure out how many twists my barrel has IE: 1/9, 1/12, etc. Any way to tell?

Special_K plus one. If the OLy is in good shape, I'll take it.

I dont know much about Olympic models, but they go for under $700 new at the Gun shows lately.

Check olympics web site - www.olyarms.com - they have a section all about their barrels.  I do believe that SS means Stainless Steel.

You got a GREAT rifle with a lifetime warranty!

A word to the wise is sufficient.  You are very unwise.

Don't listen to him. Olys are fine rifles. They may not be as good as RRA, Bushy, etc., but still a good deal for the money. I have owned one in my past and thought it was great. It was a real tack driver.

600 bucks for a used oly, or a brand spanking new Rock River for fifty bucks more. I know what I'd do.

The only good price on a used Oly would be free.

Spend a few extra bucks and you can have a brand new RRA, which is waaaaaaaay better!

Don't listen to those two, markm always says Oly sucks, with nothing to back it up. Sometimes I wonder if he's ever shot one.  Oly's are great, finish is excellent, (never seen a purple one) and extremely accurate. Enjoy.

When Oly caught fire a few years back, I would bet money that if markm would have been there he would have gasoline with him!!

Tweak, you used to work there? So it is only a 223 barrel? Can I or Can't I use 556 in it?

Thanks for all the opinions guys. yeah, I bought it, and it seems people here are divided on whether or not they like it. And either you do or you don't I guess, but I wanted a cheap plinker that I can shoot while I build 2 more on LMT, and it seems very well put together. The barrel is brand new. The lower is barely used and it looks like it was a safe queen.

I picked up an oly about a year year and a half ago on a good deal(good friend of mine covered some of the cost as a wedding gift) anyhow we picked up 2 of olympic arms plinkers, olympics lowest priced cast upper and lower 16" rifle, you know the ones you see in the shotgun news for around $500 or so..Between the 2 rifles we havent experienced any problems.I had to clean up the feedramps on mine due to a couple burrs, other than that ..nothing. Hell i bet ive run at least a few thousand rnds through it.

Im in the process of putting together some new toys and the only thing keeping me from buying Oly lowers is that i can get em for less $$$ without sacrificing quality from other distributers..another thing is until other companies start running more pistol caliber configs Oly has it locked down as far as options go.

Im proud of my little Oly Plinker she is my first AR..we have been through a lot..(of ammo)h=85%

Ill Take Mind Over Matter Anytime,....Unless Of Course Matter Is Well Directed Firepower
