Standard bayonets don't fit a 16" M4 barrel.

One of the reasons why I bought a midlength. Bayo fits perfect.

Bayonet is designed of standard 20 inch upper or the 14.5 inch upper. Some midlength 16 inch uppers will fit it properly but the standard 16 inch ones will not.

you have a civilian leagal 16" car barrel with handguards.
you need a 14.5" USGI barrel with permanently attached 1.5" or greater flash suppressor to use the bayo. or you need a midlength handguard/gas system on a 16" barrel. |

That's kinda what I figured now. Of course, I'm not gonna spend $400 or so just to make my $20 bayonet functional. At least, not right now. It's tempting though.... hacko.gif -K |

If you feel you need one for your current weapon, there are bayonets made that will fit the 16" model, they just aren't as common as the standard military versions.

I believe prebanarms, or CMMG, forgot which one, but they sell an extension.
Looks ghey....but if you want it to fit right, cut it down, 14.5, and weld on a phantom. or......extension |

No, the bayonet is supposed to fit loose like this.
The reason: as you approach the Enemy with fixed bayonet, you shake your weapon vigorously. The metallic sound this creates as the oversize ring strikes the barrel terrifies the Enemy, thus preparing him for Death. This is why they call it the "Death Rattle". |

Here is what i did and it cost me around $10-$15 I cut and welded in to add to the lenght.

Just to be nit picky. A 16" middy will mount a bayo but not exactly correctly. Here is a pic of how a bayo fit's on a 14.5" (or 20") AR\M-16...  Here is how a bayo fits on a 16" middy...  workable but not really correct. |

Yep, you can send your upper to Bushmaster, and they'll install the new barrel for you. You'll receive your old barrel in the box with your newly re-barreled upper, and you can sell it on the EE right here for around $150 - $175 depending on round count.
Swapping barrels is really not all that expensive. |

Yep. Get a 14.5 inch bbl and perm attach a phantom or vortex to it. Problem solved. |

Man, you guys are terrible!!!
Two hours ago I was thinking my bayonet was just gonna be a wall-hanger, and now I've been checking out Bushmaster's website and the paper catalog I have and thinking about sending it out in the next week or two. Oh well, what are friends for, right? headbang.gif I really like the look of the A2 birdcage, so it'd be nice to get an extended A2 style that is legal length and would support the bayonet. Certainly, I've heard great things about the Vortex, but for some reason I want the aesthetics of the A2. Man, the goofy reasons we decide to spend $$$, huh? hinking.gif -K |

Awe come on guys... I remember back when I bought my first AR15... It was 1993, I was 23 years old, and my love was a Bushmaster XM15E2S with an A1 carry handle and an 11.5/5.5 barrel... The first thing I bought after mags and ammo was a cheap-ass bayonet from Ranger Joe's  13 years and several AR15s later, it hasn't been mounted more than 3 or 4 times... The last time was a few years ago to demonstrate to my son what that "thing" was under my front sight. Oh, and once just to see if a bayonet would indeed fit on a mid-length. Which reminds me, anybody wanna buy a bayonet for cheap

How about one of those add ons for post ban barrels? The ones that are just a bayonet lug on a barrel clamp. Probably looks like crap when the bayonet isn't on, but might not be horrible looking.
