Introducing the .30 HRT.
The name was chosen to "give props" to the original developer of this "new" (HA!
) wildcat. Simply put, it is the .30 Herrett RIMLESS, "made" by us at Teppo Jutsu. Dubbed Herrett Rimless Tactical, or HRT (which also by itself heralds back to Herrett). All you do is run 6.8 SPC brass into .30 Herrett dies, trim from 1.675 to 1.605 and done you are.
But WHY?
- 7.62x39 performance without those mag head aches (but now you have to use SPC mags)
- More case capacity than the 300 Whisper and
should be able to function without an adjustable gas block.
- Something different
- 86 gr. pistol bullet through 240 SMK, as well as sabots....
- Something different
- brass should be easier to get than .221 Fireball, and cheaper too
- dies are "off the shelf", and pretty darn cheap
No, it is not the best thing since sliced bread. But it makes for another choice, and for those that have .300/221 uppers that don't run optimal, this is a simple rechamber that cleans up the old one and should make all loads run. The barrel is in the park tank, once out and installed I will test and see if my predictions hold true. Factory loads are not available at this time, but we might be able to get someone crazy enough to load it for us (we have some options)
Suggested performance from a 16" barrel:
110 Vmax 2670 fps
110 Solid Spitzer 2660 fps
168 SMK 2010 fos
240 SMK 1040 fps desired, around 1500 fps feasible
For me, this was an ideal solution, using the MGI QCB upper with a 6.8 barrel/bolt/mag and then this barrel, to give access to whisper-like performance with only a 30-second barrel swap. And the two rounds will not fit in the other's chamber ... so that issue is taken care of.
Here is the mag shown with 7.62x39, 30 HRT with 110 Vmax and 240 SMK and a factory loaded 300 Whisper.
